Hi,

So the ANA was "strongly positive"

LE PREP negative

CRP negative

Sed rate 14.

So what does this mean?

Should I see a rheumatologist.?

Theses were ord by my GI doc.

A positive ANA does not necessarily mean you have SLE, although I've read somewhere that having a negative ANA would eliminate the possibility of SLE in something like 95% of people. So while it is helpful to have the test done to see if the ANA is positive, having a positive test is pretty non-specific. But you should follow up on it for sure since you are symptomatic! Do you know what the reference range was for your ESR, by any chance?

Your ESR is perfectly normal.  Normal ranges are 0-20.

 

I have a strongly positive ANA (1:1280), with a normal ESR.  The ESR marker is not a very good indicator of disease process unless the numbers get really high.  I start feeling "unwell" when my ESR gets to over 20.  Otherwise it can fluctuate between 0-20 and I don't feel any different. 

 

Lots of people who don't have lupus or any other autoimmune diseases have positive ANA's.  Some people have high positive numbers but absolutely no symptoms.

 

It's important to go by the symptoms as well as the blood work.  Lupus is bizarre that way.

I would see a rhemy just in case since they can run more specific tests. Better safe than sorry. The ANA is very unreliable as a way to dx or rule out lupus or any autoimmune disease. I wish you luck.

I have fatigue, vague aches, feel like I am getting the flu at night, things like that.
Get rashes but not on my face.No tolerance for any type of heat. Just feel crummy alot. OF course I have Crohn's which
makes it all more complicated.
Who knows.
