enlarged liver

I have been having this pain and full feeling under my right rib and just below it.  It even hurts to the touch.  I read recently that there is a condition caused by lupus that enlarges your liver.  I don't want to run to the dr for every ache and pain cuz I feel they'll think I'm a hypochondriac but I am concerned about this.  Is this something I should tell my rhumy about or my reg. Dr.  Has any one ever experienced this problem?  If so what was done about it?

Hi Domanique, Yes there is an autoimmune disease cause primary biliary cirrhosis. It's not the same as from drinking type cirrosis. It does enlarge the liver and causes scaring. One of my rheumies diagnosised me with it. But than another rhummy said no. So who knows. But it is somthing to discuss with your rheumy and have them feel you liver to see if they think it is enlarged. There are blood tests they can do as well.

Hi Dominique, You should definitely mention your pain to each of those docs. I do have intermitant pain in the same area . . . but I also have pain on the left side under ribs at other times. LOL so I've come to ignoring quite a bit. But I do keep my docs updated on the degree and frequency of the pain. Then I try to ignore it. Blessings!

I agree with Rosie about telling both of your docs. There is a thing called lupus of the liver and I've been checked a few times because every so often my liver enzymes are elevated. I get the same pain under my ribs every so often too, but it comes and goes for me.

I just wanted to chime in. I have also had elevated enzymes and a very enlarged liver on and off over the years. I would mention it to my doc if I were you, but don't panic! Judy
