Dr appt didn't go well.

I went to my pulmonary specialist today cuz of my er visit the other night.  He said that he believes its my weight thats causing all my problems, that and anxiety.  Today was the very first time I saw him.  He also recommended that I go see a bariatric surgeon.  He then put me on another steroid inhalor.  Even with my insurance this is the 3rd inhalor I am on and it costs $30.00 for each one.  Plus one of them is making my mouth bumpy inside and it hurts which I told him and he said that I wasn't doing something right and made me take it there.  My dh went with me and the dr. looked at him the whole time explaining my meds ect to him not me like I was incapable of comprehending what he was saying.  I then told him about the pain I've been having in my side and he said he could send me for a cat scan, but he believed he wouldn't find anything wrong.  I go through in my mind constantly wondering am I crazy, am I just fat and inactive, am I depressed like they think.   I've been told this by so many of these drs that I don't know what to think anymore.  I know how I feel, I know I'm missing out on my life cuz of how I feel.  I keep praying that a dr somewhere will listen to me and believe me.   I want so badly to do things but I'm so tired and week all the time I can't.  I'm just so discouraged over today.  I probably do act wierd in the drs office but its cuz of how they are.   my right side is killing me tonight, it doesn't just hurt it feels like its burning from the inside out.  My husband is the only one in our family who works and we have 3 kids.  The money we're spending in copays and rxs is crazy and I get nowhere.  Not to mention all the time we spend at the drs and the time at the er and the missed work my husbands had to lose due to all of this.  and yet these drs act as though this is a game to me, like I'm doing all this for the fun of it.  I'm sorry I'm ranting about drs again, I'm just tired of all of it.  I feel like silently screaming for a dr to help me and I can't find one.   I live in Indy if anyone knows a good dr please let me know.

Bless your heart, Domanique, I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I wish I had an answer for you but I don't. But I do send you my sympathy and support. There's nothing in the world worse than feeling sick and not being taken seriously. The next time a doctor ignores you and talks to your DH, PLEASE interrupt the doctor and say, I'm the patient here, sir. Better yet, ask your DH before hand to reinforce that with the doctor if the doc still won't talk to you. I've had that happen with car dealers and I walked off the lot. But it's a lot easier to find another car lot than it is to walk into the next doctor's office.

Don't apologize for ranting. I understand being tired of it all and so do most of the folk here so you're in the right place.

Hi Domanique,

 

I'm sorry your appointment was a massive disappointment (too put it mildly).  I know you were very eager to see this doctor and feeling hopeful about it. shakehead

 

It took me almost a decade and about 12 specialists to finally get a diagnosis.  You can't give up.  I know it's hard, but life is worth it, your kids and hubby are worth it.  Keep plugging along.  You're not alone and we're here for you okay.

I think we would not be human if this that is happening to you, didn't make you depressed.

I am tired and weak too, and it has nothing to do with my weight.  I have lost a total of 26 pounds since this flare started, and I am depressed about it, but the depression is not the problem.  your doctor sounds like a real jerk.  talking to your husband instead of you, trying to give him the impression that you don't know what you are talking about.  as if you made it up or my favorite, "it is all in my head"

Take care and keep us up to date on things please.

Thanks so much. I feel a little stronger in spirit today. Yesterday I felt like I had just been ran over by a truck. I go in for an ultrasound tommorrow on my ovaries cuz I also have pcos and have been having irregular bleeding at times. My side still hurts like crazy but I'm going to a new general dr tommorrow for that. This will be the first time I've seen her. I had a dr back in MI which is where I'm from and she was a DO. I don't understand the differences between MD< DO ect... I just know she was very thorough and took her time and listened. This was yrs ago and I thought I'd try to find another DR that was a DO here and maybe she'll be like that. My rhumy suggested that I may have a kidney stone and should have that checked into.. Thanks for all the support.
