I've been reading some things online about the ANA titer. Yesterday I managed to find out from my doctor the titer for my ANA positive tests - 1:320 and 1:160. Then, I quote, my hematologist said to me: "a titer of 1 out of 320 or less does not usually mean anything or set off any alarms at all for a rheumatologist."

BUT, like I said I was reading a Lupus informational website and it said that titers this high ARE something to worry about. I'm confused? Can anyone help me out. I'm getting another rheumy opinion soon, so I'm gathering all my blood tests for him. I was unable to find out the 'pattern' of my titer unfortunately... Shouldn't they know that from the test or do they sometimes not check?

He also didn't tell me my sedimentation or anything, I forgot to ask. *SIGH* I need to call back and just get a copy of the blood tests for myself.

Hi Meowese, I know it can be pretty frustrating.I think it's a good idea to get copies of all your tests. That way if you see a different dr. you can just take them with you. Plus you will know how things change from time to time. As far as your titers go I really think it depends on which dr. you talk to. I had a titer of 1:2560 and my rheumy said it was nothing to be concerned about. There are people on here that don't even have a possitive titer and still have lupus or some other type of auto immune disease. So I guess I'm saying that it's one signal that there could be a problem but by itself it's not really anything you can go by. Just one peice of a great big puzzle. Most dr. beleive that anything over 1:80 is pretty normal. anything over that is a possitive. I think it's good idea to see another rheumy and get another opinion.

Thank you, Carol! I am turning into a gigantic hypochondriac here. I always feel sick and I'm sitting here on the internet searching and searching and trying to piece the puzzle together. I'm going to make sure I get copies of all of my tests from now on. You are right, my titer is relatively low compared to others and it is probably not anything to be upset about. As for rheumy apps - today I got a call and they bumped up my appointment from the end of October to this Monday because of a cancellation! I also have another appointment with a woman I've been waiting to see with a nearly 6 month waiting list. I'm hoping one of these rheums can give me some answers. I still need to find a neurologist to deal with my brain fog and memory complaints, but I think things will look up. :)

I feel as though I'm spamming the boards but the last few days I've been having a lot of anxiety about stuff. Sorry.

Oh no hun! I didn't mean it to sound like it wasn't important because some titers are higher. I'm just saying regardless of what it is that's just one of many tests. As for spaming the board lol hey somthing is wrong and you want answers. You have every right to ask questions and find out as much as you can. In my opinion somtimes with these autoimmune disease I think we are the best one to find patterns. I think the rheumy's are a long way from having the answers. If they did we would be cured by now. Being a hypocondriac is somthing we all feel like from time to time. Just think of it as another symptom. You continue searching and asking questions. I've been here about 2 years now and I still have tons of questions tongue That is so cool that your appt go moved up. It doesn't happen often. Make sure you have all your questions written down so you don't forget anything. and let us know how it goes!
