Hi,

My name is Sean and I've been undergoing treatment for SLE since 2001. I'm 25 living in New Jersey, I have no insurance, and I work a crappy part time job that pays next to nothing. It offers part time insurance but in order to get it I have to pay for it and there goes my whole check leaving next to nothing for other bills like car insurance. I've been trying to get another job or at least full time but I have not had much success. My doctor just told me that I should go on disability but if I were to do that I obviously can't work and will be even worse off than I am now.

Any thoughts on what I could do?

First off welcome to our forum. I'm sorry to hear that you have Lupus. It sure sounds like you're having a tough time. I'm not certain how long it takes to get SSDI there in New Jersey. I have to say that I applied for social security disability in February 2005 and just recently was awarded my back benefits in April of this year. So it was over 3 years before I received my benefits, I also had to hire an attorney and have a hearing before a judge.

Can you apply for state medical aid? I know some of the companies have programs where they can help you get help to purchase the medication they make. You could also check with various Church charities in your area. Other than that I'm not sure what to offer.

Are you in a flare at this time? What medications are you taking? Could you move back home with your parents? I'm thinking I wasn't much help to you, but welcome to our forum. You'll meet a lot of great people here, we're one big family.

I just wanted to welcome you also. I am sorry you are dealing with so much! Have you thought about a roommate to share your bills? I wish I had more to offer. Maybe your doc could refer you to a social worker. It's worth a shot. God bless you, Judy

Hi, thanks for the responses.

I actually still live at home with my parents so a roommate wouldn't help much. :P Besides, the house is kind of full at the moment. :P

I tried to get Charity care through the hospital near me but I was essentially denied because the union at my work offers part time insurance. If they didn't offer it I wouldn't have a problem. :P

Hi Sean! Welcome to the forum! Are you a guy? If so, there are actually a couple guys who post here. I'm sure they'll see your post and say hello. I'll find the links for meds and post here.
