so i went to the er today. i had been feeling real bad since the night of the 31st. left shoulder pain, and very short of breath. i had to sit up to fall asleep pretty much, i couldnt breath if i layed down. my drs been closed, and will be til monday but i was starting to worry not feeling any better. so i went to the er. firt i was "tacky"? tacachardia??(sp) my heart rate was to fast. so they ekg me and put me upstairs. they pop 2 of my veins putting in and iv, i have to go to x-ray for my shoulder and lungs. while there my iv clots, and backs up. so they have to replace it when i come back up. now ive been stabbed 6 times total, and to top it off, my blood came back with an extemely high number, something about my clotting facor, so they ruch me to ct for a scan. they inject me with some dye, that made me feel sic. all in all a scary day

so all in all, i came back clot free, and no lung problems that they saw!! yay, but im still left with the question of why i am feeling like this. i have to wait and see my dr tuesday, thats the earliest i can go for a walk-in.

but i was wondering if anyone has any experience with this, any of these symptoms, or if anyone can explain the clotting thing to me. the dr said i was at high risk because of my lupus, and i do take a baby asprin everday

oh yea and to top it all off, i have a urinary infection that i didnt even know i had!! what a day lol

Yes, you did have a hard day. That's a lot to go through, and I'm really glad you listened to your instincts and went to the er.

 

I have first hand experience with clotting disorders caused by Lupus.  I have APS (anti-phospholipid syndrome) and the anti-cardiolipin antibody. Both cause a protein in the blood to form which thickens the blood. 

 

I was also on a daily aspirin to treat these issues, but the aspirin didn't thin my blood enough and I had a stroke at age 28. I needed to be on a proper blood thinner.  I'm now on life long Coumadin (Warfarin). 

I can tell when my blood gets too thick. I get dopey, my words don't come out right, and I just feel "off".  I have to get my blood tested every week to two weeks to make sure I'm "theraputic" with my Coumadin.

 

You need to see your doctor or rheumy right away so they can test you for these syndromes. I'm glad you can get in on Tuesday.  In the meantime, if you experience this again, or any other symptoms get back to the er and ask them to run the tests for APS and the anti cardiolipin antibody. I'm surprised they didn't do that when you were there today.

I also have antiphospholipid syndrome. I had two DVT (Deep vein thrombosis). I had the first one and had taken Warafin for three months. Two weeks after I stopped, I had another DVT and was admitted to Emergency. They run the tests (blood tests and ultrasound on thigh), and I had APS. It is not uncommon with lupus. I have to have my blood check every week. The blood test is called INR which indicates how clotting is your blood and how much warafin you should take . I am on Warafin for life.
I agree with Ginny that you need to see your rhumty right away and have the blood check.
