Nephrologist visit went well

Hi Everyone. I went to the nephrologist today for the first time because of low GFRs and trace protein in my pee. He said I'm in first stage chronic kidney disease and I might stay in first stage for 10 years. Works for me! I need to decrease my meat intake, which isn't a problem, and keep my salt intake normal. He also wants me to stop taking the diruretic portion of my blood pressure meds and never take ibuprophen. Lastly he would like me to stop taking Celebrex (Rx for joint pain). I tried decreasing it once before and the pain was unbearable. Any time my docs have asked me stop this or that, I always at least try it for a while. This time I'll probably stop when monkeys fly out my butt. Love, Butterflake

Hi butterflake, I'm new here but in my post I asked about lupus nephritis and here you are! I have my first appt with my nephrologist tomorrow because I have protein,ketones,bili in my pee, which is the first time I've ever had any of that. I have Interstital Cystitis, so I'm used to red cells and white cells but the protein really threw me!I've always been afraid of renal failure because when I was a new RN I worked at a hospital which is the regional renal center so I took care of all the chronic renal failure patients and they were so nasty. I told my co-workers that some day God is going to have me in one of those beds with same problem. And this was before I was ever diagnosed with lupus!! Good luck and I hope you do well!

Donna, you need to post pictures of those monkeys flying out of your butt.  I'm sure we could all use some laughter!

 

I'm sorry you are in the initial stages of kidney disease.  Maybe you'll get 20 or 30 years in it!  We can be hopeful right!

((((( Donna ))))) Maybe between the diet modification and change BP med that will be enough. I know what you mean about med changes, my body doesn't like it at all and it lets me know about it!!!! If you come off the celebrex is there something else that your rheumy can give you? My moms doctor has done the same thing to her, she's off all her pain meds and nsaids, do doctor's expect us to live with unbearable pain? I just don't understand nono You will be in my thoughts and prayers! Hugs and luv to you

Hi Ginny. If I take pics of the flying monkeys their wings might ice over 'cause it will be a cold day. smilewinkgrin   Stacie I can feel your hugs from here. Docs never seem to consider quality of life. Connor I hope you're finding our forum helpful. I have a BS in medical technology so I did my tours of pee and also used to draw blood mornings in the dialysis unit. I recently went thru my medical records and since 2006 my Glomerular Filtration Rate has usually been slightly abnormal (50-58). Also I've had trace protein most visits and occasional hyaline casts. Docs suspected a renal cyst 2 years ago, but CT was clear. I started to worry 2 weeks ago when my GRF was 50 so I went to the nephrologist. He show just the right amount of concern balanced with reassurance. I go back in 3 months to check how I'm doing without the diuretic and then just send him lab reports from my rheumy. Of course the bottom line is if my creatinine is normal I'm good to go. Connor, let us know what the doc says.
