I had two healthy babies before I was diagnosed with APA Syndrome and then lupus. I commend your caring about your child before you even have one. All meds are classified according to levels of harm to the fetus, their ability to cross the placental barrier, and whether they have even been studied. Each med gets an alphabet letter, A,B,C, D or X, and any drug book at the library or the PDR on line will give you the full explanation and the pregnancy classification for each drug. I looked up all of mine. I lost a son to Group B strep, was hospitalized for strep and staph, and had 5 miscarriages at 8-9 weeks due to high antistrep antipodies, and a clotting disorder called Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome, which is where large antibodies in my blood literally plugged up the tiny blood vessels in the placenta, and caused the pregnancies to be lost. My heart is forever scarred. I finally saw a specialist who said, after treating my last pregnancy with aspirin and heparin, that if I had only come to him after the first lost baby, there was a chance the outcome would have been different. So please find a good infertility specialist, someone who knows how to handle autoimmune illnesses, ask your GYN for a referral, go to the nearest University that has a medical college, ask to see a lupus specialist, just in case.
