Hi, I am new to the group but my daughter was diagnosed with LUPUS 5 yrs ago. I have always been proactive in her healthcare but prior to her LUPUS diagnosis she had never been sick except for an ear infection when she was a baby.
When my daughters first symptoms (Angio-edema attack caused her face to swell 10 times its normal size in 30 minutes) occurred I thought she was having an allergic reaction to something she ate. Then 6 days later it happened again so I schedule an appointment with an Allergist/Immunologist and thank God I did because the test they gave her showed a high ANA level which lead to an immediate referral to a Rheumatologist who then provided us with an immediate diagnosis which lead to an immediate medication regimine.
Prior to her diagnosis I reasearched conditions that had the symptoms she was displaying as well as images of her reaction so when we saw the Allergist/Immunologist I presented them with the info and LUPUS was one of the conditions they thought she may have. Proud to say I live in Phila where Jefferson University Hospital Dupont-Neumors childrens Allergy/Immunology clinic and the Childrens Hospital of Phila Seashore House have provided my daughter with outstanding care throughout this ordeal. Also LUPUS.org and the MS Society have helped me coordinate other services she has required throughout this challenge.
