I was diagnosed in April 09 and I'm rapidly coming out of my denial stage as some of the symptoms just aren't going away.  I have been experiencing major joint pain and swelling in my ankle and bridge of my foot but also numbness from the top of my big toe to the middle of my foot.  My internist blames my shoes and my rheumy pretty much doesn't say anything.  Anyone experience any numbness and does it go away.  It's very annoying because it always feels like there is something caught between my toes but, of course, there isn't.  Also, and this is the scariest question, yesterday the pain in my foot seemed to radiate for the first time up to my knee - is this a normal progression?  rolleyes

Hi, sorry to hear about your foot pain. I can totally relate, I have a lot of joint pain in my feet, especially the top of my feet. Here lately I've also had a lot of muscle spasms too, very painful, especially when you're trying to sleep (ugh)!!! I did have to switch shoes at the recommendation of my rheumy and wear more comfortable shoes vs stylish, etc. I love Clarks & Born the best, they are so comfortable and light weight.

Are you on any meds for the joint pain? I am sure there are others that will be along shortly. Take care and welcome!

I have a lot of pain on the tops of my feet.. especially in cooler or colder weather... I have to keep socks on all the time or I can barely raise my foot up... it is the weirdest thing.. sometimes I have to drag my foot....
I have some pain at my ankle but the real problem is the top of my feet.....

Hey i go numb all the time. it's annoying and sometimes it hurts a little. especially my feet and toes. i've had a few nerve conduction studies and each time they're negative. I'm not diabetic either. my rheumy doesn't say much about it either but i was just diagnosed last year so i'm not sure if it takes a while for them to respond to certain things. i've gotten a second opinion and they didn't say anything about the numbness either. i just assume its part of the lupus. it helps if i wiggle my toes or change the position they're in. sometimes nothing helps and i just try to ignore it. I've also noticed i have less pain depending on the shoes i wear. flats are not good! but cross trainers or running shoes help me alot. can't wear my chucks like i used to. let me know how you do.

It's sometimes hard to remember that not all of our physical problems are caused by our lupus. Since your rheumy hasn't commented on your foot pain, it might be worth your while to see a podiatrist or an orthopedist. Monalisa is so right about the shoes you wear. We have a running store in my city that staffs people really trained to fit shoes. It doesn't cost any more to go there, and the pair of walking shoes that I purchased there were less expensive than others I have bought at the mall. But a good podiatrist is the person to see about that.
