Hello everyone! I was diagnosed last week with having "mild" lupus. I'm not sure about
exactly how my bloodtests came out (haven't had the follow-up appointment yet) but I know I had a positive ANA. I'm thinking my rheumy's probably not the best. He kind of gave me a hard time during my physical examination about
having come in "so early" in my disease progression. I thought this was a good thing?? Anyway.. I called in last week to get my results and the nurse told me it was mild lupus. The dr had prescribed me Meloxicam during the initial consulation, and the nurse told me to keep taking that until the follow-up appointment. Well... I'M IN PAIN! I called the doctor's office to let them know this and the nurse called me back several hours later to tell me that the doctor said for me to go to water aerobics classes at the local arthritis center and he'd talk about
medication changes with me whenever I came for my next appointment. I immediately told the nurse that my work hours are not typical and I doubted they would have a class to accommodate me. I told her I would call her back if that was the case. This was, in fact the case. When I called back the office was closed. My doctor happened to be on call, so I left a message for him. I have never been talked to so rudely by a doctor before. When I answered the phone all he said was his name. So, I said mine.. and he was just like "Yes?" Pretty much after everything I said.
He ended up telling me that he would get a prescript
ion for Plaquenil called in for me, since that's what he was going to prescribe me when I came in for my next appointment anyway (Why would he wait anyway?). I asked what I could do for the pain.. and he said Tylenol. I told him I'd tried Tylenol and it wasn't working. He said 2 pills 3x a day for the pain and if that didn't help he'd start me on prednisone but he didn't really want to do that.
Sorry to be so long-winded.. I'm just frustrated/nervous/scared.
Is this the way things typically happen after diagnosis? I would think for something like Lupus, it wouldn't be a big deal to give me a little dose of an analgesic.. at least for breakthrough pain. I'm afraid to press him though, because I don't want to seem like a pillhead or something...
Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.
