FMLA and new rheumy

Hey Ya'll

I have a question maybe someone could answer for me.

On Apr 22nd I went to my PCP, he asked me what he could do for me since I had just been in there 2 weeks before that. So I asked him if HE could put me on medical leave til I go and see my rheumy on May 17th. Although I have had to wait 8 days til the FMLA goes thru with my employer, I'm wondering should I get more papers to take to the new rheumy or can my PCP extend my leave?

Has anyone dealt with this before?

Hi there! I have been using FMLA for 2 years now, I have used it intermittantly and for short term disability. How long did your doctor fill out the FMLA for? My first one was for whenever I needed to take time off until i reached the 12 week cut off. Then my next one was filled out for only working half days. Then I started short term disabilty and another was filled out for the time I needed off. It was my understanding that if needed, I could have my doc extend the time. I would probably personally get your PCP to extend your leave until your new rhuemy can have a chance to study your case a little bit and get to know you. Also, i would wait till closer to time to have it filled out again, maybe a little break away from work will be what you need to help start feeling better and won't need to take any more time off!
