So, I went for my last visit with this rheumatologist since I'm moving in a month and a half.

First of all, she was going to try me on methotrexate and has now decided not to since I told her I was moving.  She said it would be hard to follow up on my lab values with me moving- which I completely understand although it's frustrating.

So, now a few days later (my appt was Monday), I get a call from her office stating that my TSH level was elevated and it was being faxed to my general practitioner.

I looked at the thyroid disorder forum here and I have researched online. Does anyone else have thyroid issues?  And if so, does anyone have experience with it as far as what I should be expecting and if it's somehow related to the lupus or UCTD?

I have low thyroid and it sounds like you might as well. When the thyroid is underactive, the pituitary keeps trying to prompt it to make thyroid hormones by the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) that is why it goes up. Often it is an auto-immune disease called Hashimoto's disease where your body makes auto-antibodies to the thyroid causing it to quit making T3 and T4, the active compounds that control our entire metabolism.

Have you had any symptoms of low thyroid such as tiredness, coarse hair, low voice or weight gain?

I am a 47 yr old female with hypothyroidism which I've had for 20 years now. I take synthroid .88 daily and see an endocrinologist every 3-4 nmonths. I recently took a blood test with a positive high ANA of 1:1280 (hymogenous). Saw a rheumatologist who tested for Lupus, Lymes and RA. All came back negative. I am surffering dailing with pain all over my body and I 've been to a total of 11 doctors and a therapist so far. I do not know what to do at this point. I have the feeling that my skin is burning up, and my muscles and joints are hurting all over. Please, someone, help!

I have been tired since all this stuff started. My hair has been falling out more than usual lately. No low voice and yes to weight gain. I'm waiting on my general practitioner to call me regarding the result.

For me, when I get tired, it is hard to know if it is my thyroid or the other AI issues. They both suck!!!! The AI is worse as far as fatigue goes though, it is a sick fatigue.

Hi! Everyone,

I know! I know! what you mean and how sick you feel, yeah and sick fatigue is a perfect way to describe it. I just said similar words to my neuro and then my rheumy. That I could NOT quantify to them how sick I feel ALL the time. That hey, I look fine! Cheeks pink, overweight.. (yeah, I know, if I just lost weight my joints would feel better), gee, prednisone or cellcept so I can live, or collapse in bed and die)? I once asked my rheumy why we have to keep doing blood work that is usually negative or low/inconclusive, and he said just because my labs are negative doesn't mean I don't have lupus. ( I had a positive ANA and lost 6 babies from antiphospholipid antibody syndrome), and that autoimmune illness is like that. And I am blessed I have such good drs. Primary family doc, immunologist, and a very nice neurologist I have only had to see 3 times since I was diagnosed in 2005. Since I have just had to resign my job because I am literally too sick to work, and am just doing my disability paperwork, I opted to stay on my maintenance dose of 5mg of prednisone, the devil I know rather than the devil I don't, and not start cellcept yet, as summer is my most well time, and I will not have to live with the stress of my job and hope to feel better enough without either one. My bone density is dropping steadily from the long term steroid, so here's hoping and God knows. And interestingly enough, my B12 level was critically low at 130, and my vit D will not go up over 30.

ps. don't give up, document daily, search till you find the right dr, take pictures of rashes or sores, (or anything funny for the fun of it) tongue Beg your dr. to treat the symptoms and not the lab report, they can do short term trials if they want to, my plaquenil and synthroid helped immensely, the dr. had to see the thyroid peroxidase report first, and my hair finally stopped falling out...

pps. my neuro had a great cartoon on his office door... pt. on exam table saying.."Hi Doc, I am only here for a second opinion, I diagnosed myself on the internet!" turn

Tessy, did the rheumatologist just send you away and not address your pain??? They need to figure out why you are in pain. Keep going until you get an answer or relief from your pain. Good luck.
