I had a piece of skin removed Wednesday for skin cancer testing. I had a mole grow a mole on top of it and with a family history of skin cancer my doctor and I decided to just remove the whole original mole and send it in for testing. Does anyone know how long that kind of testing takes? I have always assumed I was pretty safe from skin cancer because I avoid the sun but this is scary. I had to have 2 stitches put in because of the size of the mole and the bleeding after removing it. Add in the fact I was running a fever when we did the removal and you can pretty much guess I am flaring from the lowering of my prednisone. My doctor wants me to give this new dose a month before I give up because he really wants my dose down below 10mg for the sake of my bone density. I think I like this new rheumetologist but am still not 100% sure about him. I am still nervous about how he will react to the fact that when I get below 15mg I can't function at least if that is still true because that is what happened last time I tried to get lower on prednisone. Maybe I was tapering too fast but I did okay until I went below 15mg. Then I had no energy and couldn't think straight. I personally figure why not do a bone building drug and just stick with what works for the lupus but then again what happens when I need more prednisone someday just to get the same result I have right now, after all the body builds tolerances to medications and requires higher and higher doses to get the same affect. I worry that will be true of prednisone eventually. I guess I am rambling, I have no idea why I am awake this early anyway. But if someone has some ideas or answers please help me understand this all.
