Hi.  I am 43 years old.  Diagnosed by Rheumy with OA.  Positive ANA 1:80 speckled 2 years in a row.  Achy joints all over.  Take tramadol every 6 hours.  Could it be something else.  I do have a baker's cyst, but also had a kidney stone in November 2011, dry eye syndrome, urinary incontinance.  Achy so much, last couple of nights bad with the elbows and they get stiff.  Doctors said that's all they can do for me.  Tramadol and bladder med daily.  I guess I just have to live with the pain.  I look perfectly healthy and always smiling and the numbers are not there, so I just have to live with it.

I'd try a different Rheumy. You've got something more than OA in my honest opinion.

pain meds for OA...get another rheumy.  I had it long before getting lupus and took celebrex which gave excellent pain relief and reduced the inflammation.  Never took any straight pain meds.  If something like lupus is flaring your joints which is a common symptom of lupus, it is lupus that needs treating, not just the pain.  If you have to take pain meds do it on a short term basis, not as a primary treatment.

Do you know what your RA number is? That is a determining factor as to what meds they give you. There are a TON of relief meds out there, so I personally don't think you should suffer. Achy, stiff yes....pain no! I would track your days by journalling, indicating how you felt, what the weather was, what your pain level is, how long stiffness lasted, did you feel like you got hit by a truck or a matchbox car, did you feel like you had the flue, your temp at various times during the day etc.. Take it with you to the doctor for review.

Some days/weeks will be not so bad, but other days may be worse. Be as honest as you can. Keep posted....Gentle hugs to y!ou

I don't have RA, only lupus, scleroderma and polymyositis and a bunch of secondary conditions.
