Positive ANA 1:40 Homogeneous

I'm new and have been feeling very bad for a very long time. Just switched doctors and finally got a dr. who is listening to me. After my first visit she ordered blood work and my ANA is Positive with a titer of 1:40 and Homogeneous pattern. Dr. said she feels I have Lupus and referred me to a Rhumy. I've been suffering for so many years with odd things happening to my body. Has anyone ever had Fifths disease as I feel that may have been where it all started. Any insight would be helpful....

I hate that your suffering, but you can find some good facts here. lupus.org and lupus.com can give you all of the facts a figure but we can give you the human side of the equation.

I don't think I ever had Fifths. The only childhood disease I had was Chicken pox.

I've gone to the Lupus.org site and it is very helpful. It's just confusing making sense of my Positive results, titer levels and patterns..... I'm anxious for my rhumy appointment and a dx as I have so many symptoms and the thought of waiting years for a diagnosis may be more than I can take. The fatigue is debilitating and I just want to feel better.

If he decides that you do have lupus then the plaquenil will help a lot with the fatigue.
Before it I was so fatigued it took all of my strength to raise my hand. I still get tired but no so severe.

Hello and welcome, you will get a lot of valuable info here. I'm sorry that you may have lupus, it's the disease of a 1,000 faces.

I would keep a journal of all your symptoms to take with you to see the Rheumy. Your ANA is considered a low positive and that may be a good thing. Auto immune disease are hard to DX so try to be patient and rest as much as you can. If the Rhuemy feels you have it the plaquenil should help a lot. It can take up to six months to feel all the benefits.

Ask any questions or just come and vent I have been a member here since 2003 I think. The people here are great, understanding and very supportive.

I went to my new Dr. with stomach issues and told her of the many other problems I also have and have had. These problems have been effecting my life for the past 7 years: Arthritis in my knees, hands and feet, chronic fatigue, chronic sleep problems, shortness of breath, memory problems, sores in nose, dry eyes and mouth, severe sun sensitivity, GI problems, heaviness in chest, heart palputations, tingling lips, hands and feet, numbness in hands, aching muscles, chronic headaches, swollen eye-lids and swollen under one eye, sores in scalp and around hairline and horribly itchy arms.

I had no idea all these weird things could possibly be related. I just want to know what's wrong with me and find a solution so I can feel better. The fatigue is killing me and seriously effecting my quality of life.

I appreciate a place to voice what I continue to go through as I feel bad telling my husband how badly I feel all the time.
