I am new to this as many of you know. I was wondering what you all do for joint pain? My hip, elbow, and jaw are killing me. I called my Rhemi and did a medral dose pack. But I finished that and those three joints still hurt. My fatigue is much better though so I don't want to call her again. I cannot take NSAIDs because I have UC. Is it heat I should use? Does it need to be moist heat? Can it be used on my jaw joint? Is anything like icy hot good? One time I read about putting rice in a sock and heating it in the microwave. Will this work with instant rice? Does anyone know the details on how to do it? Sorry to ask so many questions. Thank you for your time.

Moist heat is good. Some people like to use ice though.

Rice in a long sock warmed in microwave will feel good and will do the moist heat without wetting the sock. I believe for a sock size it will take about 1 minute. Just tie a knot in it to seal it.

You can use it anywhere on your body you need.

Have you asked your doctor if you can use Voltern Gel? You'll have to have a perscription though.

Almost any dry bean will work, add 1/2 cup of water to your microwave to get a moist heat. (Don't put sock in water, just let them sit in there together.)

I don't think instant rice would be that great, it reacts differently with water. But it's not a big deal to try it & see.

Joint pain will wear you down, so don't hesitate to call your doctor again and chase away the pain. I need to take my own advice on this, so will be calling my own Dr on Monday.

Hi Teddtlove,

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with joint pain. Joint pain is my main lupus symptom so I've tried just about everything. I use a heating pad, ice, TENS unit, Biofreeze, Salonpas patches and the freeze spray. When it gets really bad I have to take pain meds and I take Celebrex twice a day but I know you said you can't take NSAID's. I hope this gives you a few options.
