I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are asking about. Maybe gastric bypass surgery?

We did have a Lupus member who passed away shortly after having some sort of weight-loss surgery, I don't know which type. While we suspected the surgery was a contributing factor, I believe the ladies husband had an autopsy performed but never posted the final results. The woman had a number of issues beyond Lupus, but obviously was not helped by the surgery.

Butterflake also had a weight-loss surgery, after which she experienced multiple complications. She should be along soon to discuss them herself. Her general health was much better going into the surgery than the health of the woman who passed away.

Some people have had better results, but I would heavily caution against ANY kind of elective surgery if you have an active auto-immune disease. These diseases are not well-understood, and basically we have no idea what might trigger them into a flare.

Hi Teddtlove. I attended a seminar for gastric bypass and another for gastric sleeve. My insurance didn't cover gastric sleeve, so I had the bypass. about a month after the surgery, my stomach closed off. To make a very long story short I caught pneumonia, was in a coma for two months, had a pic line put in my arm so I could be fed thru IV and didn't eat in 2011. The docs tried to open my stomach (endoscopy) 13 times that year, but it kept closing. I had my gastric bypass reversed Jan 2012 and have belonged to Weight Watchers ever since.

From the gastric sleeve seminar I attended, it seems like it would be easier, but it is still major surgery.  I agree with Lynnwood and caution against any kind of elective surgery. Keep us posted Teddtlove. Love, Butterflake
