I got my SSD Hearing letter today. I go to it in October. I'm already getting nervous.

Any tips out there?

No tips but loads of good luck. The best thing for me is rest and when you work full time that's just not possible. Do you have an attorney?

Look clean but not dressed up, Don't do a lot with makeup, and Tell the truth. When they ask about what you can do in a day and stuff like that, use one of your worst days as an example.

Patty- I do have an attorney.

Lynwood- I don't do make up or dressy clothes. I'm plain and simple in my dressing up. My worse day? I lay around in my recliner in my pajamas.

So glad you have your hearing date. Don't be nervous your Attorney will be with you and things will go just fine. You've been given good advice already, the only other thing I would add, is have someone drive you to the hearing.

When I had my hearing they had a person there that new the job market and all about what I did for a living. She presented the facts, and when my Attorney questioned her about positions be open for me with my restrictions then she would have to answer whether there were jobs or employers out there that would hire me. She had to answer no to every single question he asked.

It took my Judge 3 weeks to make his decision. Hopefully, yours will decide right then and there. For me from start to finish, when I received my settlement check, was 3 years and 7 months. Yours is going to go just fine don't worry to much or you'll set yourself off into a flare up.

Joy, I will cross my fingers, toes and eyes for you. Is a SSD hearing some sort of disability insurance hearing? We don't have that in Canada.

It's to receive SSD. I'm going through the review process now for my long term disability. After receiving it for two years they determine if I will continue it or not.

Barbara, I hope your cough clears up for you soon.

As for the working jobs....
Can I work outside? No
Can I work inside? Not if there's fluorescent lighting.
Can you sit at a desk for long period of time? I have to have freedom to prop my feet up to avoid swelling.
Can you type? No, arthritis in my fingers limits typing.
Can you carry items? Only if less than ten pounds.
Can you stand for long periods of time? Nope

Oh I see, thanks for explaining it. I imagine they make you jump through hoops just as they do here for our canada pension plan disability.

You will do great and you have a whole team here to guide and support you. :)

Thank I hope my cough eases too. When I mentioned the questions about your ability to work, all of the answers you've provided as long as your Doctors have put it in writing is what will count with the Judge at the hearing.

An example is this my Dr wrote that I needed to be able to lay down for 30 minutes every 2 to 3 hours. My attorney as the lady how many employer in the metro area can accommodate this requirement from my Dr. Well, of course she had to reply none. I mean how many employers will hire someone who needs to lay down several time a day to rest 30 minutes each time.

The Judge will take everything into consideration over the decision of whether you're able to work or not. I'm certain things will go fine for you. If I can answer any other questions, please ask away. Try not to be to nervous okay.

I haven't been on this site in a while but good luck with the SSD hearing. I was thankful when I went
out last Feb I was able to apply right a way and the "waiting" period was backed up til then. I was one
of the rare ones who got it on the first try with no lawyer. I sent them copies of all the medical files
I could get my hands on....about 2" in a years time. Heart guy, neuro, rhumie, back specialist, PT papers,
gyno, knee surgeons, tumor removal, diabetic, etc.....and then I came down with tremors so bad I could
beat myself up. Try eating a slice of bacon with them...funny. At least I could laugh at myself when I
could barely walk. Now that I'm not working I was able to heal some until my car wreck and had to start
over.
Just go with as much info as you can, as much paperwork as you can get your hands on, and KEEP files
for yourself. I had 3 copies of everything. One for the SSD people, and two for me (just in case). If you
are older and have multiple issues that can't be fixed you're a good candidate to get it. Good luck
