My new eye doctor recently told me I had the beginnings of cataracts. I'm only 46. Curious, I decided to do some research. I found out that lupus can cause the development of cataracts early in us. mad

To top it off....it can cause us to develop glacoma. I've had glacoma for 15 years! I just found out 2 years ago I had lupus. eyes

Do any of you have cataracts or glacoma?

I do Joy, but at 65, I doubt it's due to lupus. But I do have significant eye problems that I think are caused bu lupus, such as frequent eye infections, dry eyes, and a gritty feeling that feels like I have something in my eyes.

Me, too Joy. My eye doctor said I have the start of cataracts as well. And he said that the culprit could be Lupus. He also checks me for Glaucoma.....family history and the Lupus meds I am on.

I've had high pressures since I was 17. I've seen so many eye specialist over the years. Some say I have glaucoma and treated me. Others say no I don't and have stopped my treatment.

I have thick corneas which can make your eye pressures high. For now I'm on nothing for glaucoma, my optic nerve is doing great. They say I have ocular hypertension. The interesting thing is my daughter has the same condition. She's been like this since age 10.

As for cateracts, I had mine removed last simmer. Mine were caused from steroids. If you use any type of steroids long term, even steroid inhalers, they can cause cateracts.

They have to be removed for your vision to clear up. The eye dr can tell the difference between a regular cateract and one caused by steroids. Lots of Dr's and researchers like to blame lupus, but I'm betting my cateracts were steroid induced which the lupus caused me to need the steroids.

I've had high pressure for 28 years but have only been treated the last 15 years. I've been on steriods off and on for my asthma. The last 14 years I've been on advair.

We learn something new every day.

I've got to get to bed I've got an important phone call in the morning from medicaid. I'm trying to get some health insurance I can afford. Wish me luck.
