I'm not quite sure what you're asking of us. If I understand things correctly your had heart surgery (?) and you're fixed now. You're having issues with the color taking when you dye your hair, correct? Do you have lupus and are you asking if lupus can affect your hair holding color in it?

I've had lupus for 26 years now and have colored my hair on and off over the years. I've never had an issue with it not taking a color treatment. As for washing out of my hair that's can be different. There are like three types of hair dye. One is a rinse and it comes out the next time you wash it, the next one last for only like 10 washes or some, this is a semi permanent and then there's a permanent color. However, even those will fade with time.

According to my hair dresser there isn't a permanent, permanent color to use. Eventually, the dye will lighten in your hair as you wash it. That' why you you can see the dye on your towels. I've not heard anything about lupus affecting our hairs ability to hold onto dye. I know that lupus can make our hair fall out and I know that coloring our hair isn't recommended for people with auto immune diseases. Maybe someone else on the forum has or knows something. Lets wait and see what replies you get.

Guess I worded it wrong the dye doesn't totally wash out, but it will lighten with every wash that you do. That's why shampoo and conditioners are made for people who dye their hair. It's to help prevent the fading of the color from your hair.

I went to beauty school right out of high school. My Mom wanted me to be a hair dresser and I didn't. I managed to go almost all the way thru the course. I even was up on the floor doing customers hair. Matter fact I cut my Mother in Laws hair like 8 months prior to meeting my hubby at. How strange is that eh. I quit the academy like 4 month prior to graduation. I didn't want to cut hair for a living, I wasted a bunch of money listening to my Mom and paid a student loan forever because of it. I knew deep in my heart I wanted to work in Finance and it took a long time to reach that goal but I did it.

Joy, just so you know, if you go to the local beauty supply store they can show you that they do sell hair color that is just meant for one use, a semi permanent that usually last 10- 12 washes and then a permanent dye, which they don't wash out, but do fade and lighten every time you wash your hair.
