I have been having some type of sores in my mouth, that keep acurring. This has been going on for about a year now. And I think I remember my Rheumy saying something about these(but I didnt tell him that I had had any of them, cause it really slipped my mind), and I just read something about mouth sores and Lupus. What can I do for these, if anything?? Seems like I have one, it clears up and goes away only for another one to start like 2-3 days later. If anyone knows about theses, please let me know!! Thanks!

Hi DV, yes mouth sores can be a side effect of lupus. They makes a mouth wash/rinse specifically for that. It has a couple of different ingrediences in it. One being an antibiotic. You will need to get a perscription for it from your doctor. Tell them you need magic mouthwash.

yes, unfortunately mouth sores are a symptom of lupus, I suffer with them too. There are several things you can do but in my experience the Rx's work better than the others. My rheumy gave me 3 rx's, one is a paste that works well for those on the cheeks, a "magic mouthwash" that is good for on the tongue, gum line, roof of the mouth, etc and Folic acid tabs. The mouthwash has 3 ingredients that the pharmacist will mix for you. I take 3mg of Folic acid a day and that seems to keep them away not unless I am heading for a flare.

I use Gly-Oxide for mine. You can get it OTC and it works well for me although a lot of people here swear by the Magic Mouthwash although I always forget to ask my doc about it. I do agree with Stacie though about the folic acid. Ever since I started taking that, my mouth sores haven't flared up as much.

That's good to know about the folic acid - I'll have to look into that. I have nouth sores a lot and ulcers on my tongue too. I have the paste and the magic mouth rinse and I like the magic rinse the best. deevee, I hope you find something that works well for you and it's worth asking about the prescript ion mouth rinse.
