Your stats are correct. about 30% get approved on 1st application and only 10-15% (varies from state to state) on 2nd. They have to use a different adjudicator and different Moe, Larry and Curly doctors but the results are usually the same....denial.
If you have a hopeless disease and are going to die soon they will approve it but few others get approval on 1st app. A friend of mine got it when she had stage 4 ovarian cancer. Sadly, she passed away in less than a year.
There are cheats in the system and that seems to be the excuse to be tough but the system is not fair and puts seriously ill people through hell to get a benefit they are entitled. It is also sad that for most the only way to get that benefit is to pay a lawyer to get it.
