any advice for a skin rash

I have had this awful rash for over 2 months, doing everything i can think of to remedy.  doc says to use corto cream but its not working, just getting worse.  just diagnosed with lupus yesterday, had crohns for a decade and noticed lupus type symptoms, achy joints, rashes and sleeping 12 hours feeling still unrested.

this rash is not due to the sun, its hot, red and embarassing to say the least. waiting to see a rhumey and dermatoligist but am looking for some advice now!

please help

Hi chronie . . . welcome to the forum sis. I'm so sorry you have now been dx with Lupus on top of Crohn's. It seems these AI diseases like to overlap and many here have several. Ya, your rash sounds different . . . but you might explain it in a bit more detail. Is it all over your body? or In certain areas? In round circles (w/lupus that could be discoid lesions) ? How long have you had it? Have you started any new meds lately? I don't know much about it, but there are some with a yeast overgrowth which can in extreme cases cause a rash. I hope some of the others can be of better help. Blessings!

Hi Chrohnnie, I really can't help much with the rash, but I do want to welcome you. I'm really sorry to hear that you now have a lupus diagnosis on top of a Crohns diagnosis. Just one of those diseases is enough to deal with on their own. Is the rash mainly on your face? If it's the lupus rash (butterfly rash), there's not a lot that I have found that has helped it. I do find that the rash gets worse as I feel worse and fades a bit when I am feeling better. Please ask any questions you have - lupus can be pretty overwhelming to deal with at first. Hi Chronie, One more thought . . . make sure to take pictures of your rashes and bring to Rheumy and to Dermo in case the rash clears before your appointment. Blessings!

Hi Chronie, well doesn't that figure! Seems par for the course to get dealt one bad hand after another. One of the ladies on this group suggested I use aveeno on my rash and it really helped in 2 days. I bought the aveeno with oatmeal. I'm not going out on a limb with it or anything. It could have been that it was starting to heal at that time anyway. I will keep it around for the next case I get though. I hope you get some help with the rash. Oatmeal baths seem to help people some too.

thanks for the great advice.  the rash is primarily on my face, cheeks mostly.  almost like a sunburn with small bumps.  also on my chest a bit, gets really red first thing in the morning and late at night.  it seems to get better after i take the prednisone, about 3 hours after it starts to fade.  my doc did prescribe 1% cortisone cream which i have been using for the past couple of days.  freaks me out to use this on my face but i will try anything at the moment.

got an appt with a dermatologist next week, hopefully he can shed some light on it.  not sure if i should break ties with my GI doctor seeing as though i may not need her anymore?  anyone here have more than one AI and more than one doctor?

Hi Chrohnie . . . yes! Members here have any combo of neuro, rheumy, pulmanologist, cardio, GI, nephrologist, endocrineologist . . . the list goes on. There really are those here who have several of different specialists. I have found that the powdered mineral type foundation covers my redness nicely when i need to hide it. I don't often where makeup, but occasionally I really do want to cover extreme redness. I bought mine at Sally's and it was very reasonable. Yes, you will likely still need your GI doc. Hopefully a rheumy and dermatologist may be able to help you with your rash. I had horrible malar rashes on my face, red, dry, itchy, bumpy, to the point where they were bleeding. Over the counter medication wasn't strong enough for me, and I was prescribed medication to take twice a day and two different prescription cream/ointments. That was the only thing that worked for me.

Keeping my fingers crossed that they clear up soon. I know how horrible rashes can be.
