What is the youngest person to have Lupus?

My 4 year old grandson is being tested for Lupus. Because there is a possiblity that it runs in my family and because he is having problems walking due to his knees his Dr. is testing. We will know by Monday. At the same time because my son shows signs of Lupus he has been tested. He is 24.

The mother to my grandson has TM (Transversal Mylitis) which is an autoimmune disease. She was dx in 92 when she was 11.

Hi Veronica . . . its very rare for a young child to be dx with lupus. But I have heard of some youngster with RA. Our daughter's friend had it really bad in her knees and she managed it all of her childhood with Tylenol. I hope the find out what is at the root of your grandson's knee problems . . . poor little guy . . . and I sure hope it isn't Lupus. Blessings!

thank you all for the response. I hope and pray that neither one of them have it.

I talked to my daughter and she said today is a good day for him he was up walking some but still limping. I would hate for this to be his way of life. She said he has one good day and two bad days. I keep telling her to keep the faith and God will help him no matter what he has.

My daughter has CNS Lupus and Hughs disease shis only 17 years old

I have talked to someone who was diagnosed at 7. Not sure about anyone younger. Her name is Leslie Hunt and has worked with the LFA of Illinois. Do a google on her and you can find information. Leslie is in her mid 20s and doing very well now after having some very rough times but now leads a normal life and is pursuing a career in music.

Hi Veronica:

I just wanted to say I sure hope your grandson doesn't have lupus. Sending up a bunch of prayers for him. The youngest person I know with lupus is 14. This is a tough disease to have and be a kid. Wishing your boy healthier days ahead.

I was 19 when I was diagnosed with lupus but with some of my conditions and when my doctors found out about my medical history and things that had gone wrong, they believe that I have had lupus since I was about 15 or 16.  That is just a guess but it is so hard to tell because that was one of the things that they never thought to test me for in the past.

I hope everything works out with your grandson.

I was diagnoses with lupus at age 3. I'm 12 now.

I was not diagnosed until about 25 but looking back I am sure I had it at a very young age, symptoms began around 7 or 8.  My daughter is 15 and I have always been paranoid about her having it because she has joint pain and swelling.  I was hoping if I prepared for the worse it would never happen, well, she is now presenting with a very classic butterfly rash.  Waiting to see when we can get in to see my Dr.  I will say that I am 48 now and all in all I do not feel like lupus has defined my life.
