Hi everyone I have not been on in  awhile as once my Plaq kicked in I have been doing really well even travelling etc. Now my problem I have is how do you know if any symptom you get is related to your autoimmune disease or just something you might have gotten regardless. I have never had a problem with mouth sores ( I was dx's in Dec 2006) but I am now on week three of cracked mouth corners. I went the Dr and he gave me and antibiotic/coritsone cream that helped for a bit and now they are back again. I don't know if it's a stymptom of my UCTD or just because the weather is starting to get really cold here. The rest of my mouth is fine other then these stupid splits which hurt so bad I can barely open my mouth.

Hi, canuckgirl....Welcome to the rollercaoster...I never know anymore. I just got back from a doctors visit myself today. So, now, I have to go and get more test done. My pcp is trying to see what maybe causing my fatigue.

Hi there,

Mouth sores and nasal sores are common in autoimmune diseases.  Make sure you use a lubricant, good ol'vasoline will even due the trick, also there is infection.

Hi there,

Mouth sores and nasal sores can occur in autoimmune diseases or when you system is compromised.  Good ol'vasaline works to keep those mucus membranes moist in the nose and around the mouth and salt rinces work well for inside the mouth,  Unless there is risk of infection a antibodic ointment, or other treatment percribed by a Doctor may be neccessary.

Vitamin B Complex deficiency can cause cracked mouth corners. Do you take any vitamin supplements? If not, you should ask your doctor if taking a daily multivitamin is ok for you.

Hi, Canuckgirl. Sorry I'm getting in a little late. I've had the mouth and nose ulcers before. For the sores on your lips, I use plain old vaseline and Novitra. For the sores inside your mouth, in Daniel J. Wallace's book; he recommends gargling with buttermilk or hydrogen peroxide diluted in a few ounces of water several times daily. For the nasal ulcers he suggests vaseline as well. Hope to can get them better soon! They are painful! Take care,

what about mouth feeling like it's on fire mostly around tip of tounge.

Burning tongue is a symptom of Vitamin B12 deficiency.  If I were you, I'd ask the doctor to check your vitamin B blood levels to make sure you are absorbing enough from your diet.  If any are low or low-normal, I'd recommend asking if it is ok to take a daily multi-vitamin or even just a B Complex supplement.  Don't wait too long - B vitamin deficiencies can cause nerve damage.

I had an awful bout of those a few months ago. I started taking my multivitamins again, and used an antifungal cream (nystatin) on the mouth corner cracks themselves. Not sure which did the trick, but in a couple of days they were gone.
