Teeth Ache f/Lupus?

Has anyone had their teeth ache as a symptom of Lupus or Sjogren's? This isn't from grinding, bad/broken teeth, or bad gums. At night when things get still my teeth, mostly in the back, just ache. Not really hurt, but I find just the normal resting of top teeth on bottom generates a noticeable annoyance. Feels better if I keep my teeth from resting on each other -- but that really does take effort and isn't normal. I don't think it's referred pain from anywhere; it also doesn't act quite like the random lupus inflammations I'm familiar with. No dry mouth symptoms. Just funky evening tooth ache! Werid, huh? Just wondered if anyone has had a similar/same symptom associated w/lupus?

Sorry Lynwood and Carol . . . ughhh, new one re that fosomax Carol!! My old rheumy checked my jaws frequently for TMJ, which is common in Lupus, maybe because of general inflamation??? The paradid (sp?) is also in that area and can cause some aching . . . when its both sides like that, it gives me a bit of hint that it might be Lupus related and inflammatory. I think you could figure out by trying extra pred or anti-inflamms to see if it subsides. If it is TMJ, a mouth guard would likely help and w/your rheumy appt a week away, I don't know if you should get in to see a doc before that or wait for that appt. I hope the others have some help for you. Blessings!

Funny you say that,i sometimes get jaw pain.I felt it a few times in the morning and in the middle of the night over the past two years.When i woke up in the morning and tried to bite down it was terribly stiff and painful.In the middle of the night i do find myself sort of grinding my teeth so i was thinking it might be TMJ but i also wondered if it was related to the Lupus.I will also have a dull ache in my ear associated with the jaw pain.I do have a positive Sjogrens titer but the other three tests for Sjogrens was negative.I dont have any dry eyes or dry mouth.So is this jaw pain Lupus related or some kind of early symptoms of Sjogrens???

P.S.I was at the dentist last year for a cleaning and NEVER had cavities.My dentist was shocked to have a 37 year old with no cavities and no form of dental work or fillings.

Sorry to hear about teeth. I hate toothaches, esp at night. I had four back molars crumble suddenly on one day in 1998 during a bad flare up of my disease, and had two break about two years ago. I also have had all these salivary glands and lymph nodes removed. Prior to my teeth breaking I had no sjogrens dx or receding gums or tooth infection. I didn't think I had dry mouth until I took evoxac, then my teeth tartar buildup improved dramatically and less stains and tooth pain and less gum bleeding. I think there is a nerve thing involved in that too, though I had four root canals the first time. I don't know why it all happened at one time in one day when I bit down on something. It was horrible. Possible vitamin deficiency and calcium might be contributing. I know dry mouth even somewhat mild will drasticallyeffect teeth. Also, check for tmj and think of buying an overthecounter night guard to protect your teeth from grinding. It sounds like you might have jaw tension and I'm sure lupus/CTD must make this worse, as would steroids which hype us up. I take klonopin but used to take valium for it. It will realy ache at night as you prep to grind during your sleep. I hope you feel better and sorry so long, I did read the post and am trying. Relaxation tape at night might help too. I use one when things get bad.
