IV vs. Oral? Opinions appreciated

I think a lot of depends on how long you have been sick and what your symptoms are. My understanding from all I have read is that if you have CNS involvement, like seen in a SPECT scan, that IV's are a better option. Otherwise orals are ok.

Some people on here saw remarkable progress on IV's while others saw slow improvement.

Keeping your job is important -I am in the same boat. Very hard to work when you don't feel well.

Since that time, thinking on this has changed. Some people have troubles with absorption, in which case IV treatment would be necessary, but otherwise it's pretty much what the doctor is most comfortable with, not how long you've been infected. The goal is to be able to get very high concentrations of the abx in the blood, and that can usually be done easily with orals, which is less costly, less time consuming, and would allow someone to be able to continue on with work much easier.

The macrolid class of antibiotics in any form cross the blood brain barrier.

A lot of doctors start you on oral antibiotics to see how you progress and only go to IV's when your healing stalls out.

It would be a good idea to explain to your doctor that you need to remain functional during treatment. That would probably call for a "low and slow" approach, which is favored by many LLMD's as it produces the best long-term success.
