I'm going to take a break from Zhang's Protocol (maybe just continue Garlic) until I get all my pulmonary tests done. They won't be completed until December, so I really need ideas as far as how to keep fighting Lyme without taking the herbs. I have another infection that needs treatment too (that dental infection that I kind of just let go has turned into a major problem), so I don't want the herbs in the mix at this point.

Any ideas of what I can do?

will you be on abx for your dental infection?

if that is the case, i would probably just do that until after your heart tests.  you will be treating with the abx.

So sorry to hear about your continuing heart problems. I am kind of beginning to think that all of us self treating either Zhang's or whatever can be dangerous since we don't have any LLMD actually seeing us and making sure that we aren't taking anything that is bad for us.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

But sometimes even the doctors don't know what's safe & what isn't. I was prescribed several things recently and upon searching online and discussion with folks in a local support group, found out that none of the items are safe for me for one reason or another. Scary, considering the reputation of the doctor who prescribed these things...

Hi Maureen - I tried taking Zithromax for the dental infection but I just can't do it. After taking it for so long my stomach just won't tolerate it. I'm just waiting to get an appointment now. I wish there was an antibiotic that I could take without have side effects that were worse than the actual problem.

Hi Jginkc - Thank you! I was starting to think that maybe Zhang's protocol could have caused the raise in pulmonary pressure, but it was higher than normal in January, too (before I had even started the herbs), but it went up 5 points since then, which was cause for concern.

I'm so hesitant to stop the herbs completely because I do believe they have helped me. I trust Dr. Zhang, but you're right, it's hard not having an actual doctor that you can visit to guide you through everything.

Hi Razzle - I agree, sometimes doctors don't know what's safe and what isn't. I seem to always have side effects from antibiotics. Most recently from Anti Vert. I took it for dizziness and it made me more dizzy and I felt drunk for 2 days with lots of brain fog and confusion.

The problem is that herbs aren't regulated by the FDA, so none of my doctors can say whether I should take them or not, or whether or not they are causing any problems. I wish doctors believed in more than just antibiotics and treated a bit more holistically.

Maybe you should work with a doctor who treats holistically and can monitor you?

I am off abx now and am going to go that route for a little while. I also don't know what I am dealing with at this point- what is still lyme, co-infection, yeast, or something else. The only thing I am doing right now is rifing and taking grapefruit seed extract and apple cider vinegar.

I feel 95% better though, wanted to see what would happen off abx- so far, so good. The only symptoms remaining are sinus/ear symptoms, vibrations/tingling, and every once in awhile pain that comes and goes (but mostly gone and not bad when it comes on- could be mini herxes from rifing, have to start paying attention when they happen).

My plan is to give my body a break and just rife for now, see a holistic doctor. If all goes well and I continue to feel well, I will go back on abx in early 2009 (ones safe for pregnancy) and plan on trying to get pregnant then.

How far away are you from Toms River, NJ? I think I found a potentially very good DO who treats holistically (I can let you know after I see her- am going to make an appointment with her). I am around an hour from there.

I'm a little over an hour from Tom's River, but it would be worth the drive if you like her. Definitely send me the info if she's good!

I don't know much about rifing. How do I get a machine? I've heard of people making them, but I wouldn't be able to do that.

I add 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar to water twice a day. I'll have to look into the grapefruit seed extract too.
