phsvincent, you seem to be knowledgeable about abx and called clindamycin an "old school" abx to combine with quinine for antimalarial tx. so, now i'm worried. hoping to get off abx within a couple of months, i'm hoping i've taken what is going to knock the lyme out of me. i got bitten a year ago and got acute disseminated lyme with a 3 month delay in starting abx.
took 400mg of doxy for 6 weeks and improved after a month of doxy. then relapsed after a month off abx. next got tested for coinfections and was positive for babesia (does bartonella sometimes not show up?). did one month of levaquin. then another break before starting with current llmd. my main regimen for the last 6 months has been clindamycin, mepron, plaquenil and zithromax. went off clindamycin after 2 months and then on omniceff for a month and then back to clindamycin for another 2 months. will this cover all the bases? am feeling much better except still have some cognitive blips and intermittent mild to moderate fatigue.
will this regimen cover lyme, babesia and bartonella?

Hmm. I'm going to have to think a little bit here. That was a rather aggressive mix you had at one time. How did the one month of levaquin feel? I'm guessing you stopped due to tendon pain.

thanks for answering, phsinvent. i tolerated the levaquin well- no tendon pain. i had a 5 day herx of overall body muscle aches and fatigue 3 weeks into it. i stopped because that doc gave me a choice to continue on it or stop and i was worried about levaquin from reading warnings about it. then there was a break because i was switching to an llmd out of state with more years of experience and that's when i started on the clindamycin(with a month substitution of omniceff), zith, plaquenil and mepron. he gave me clindamycin because i had tested positve for toxaplasma along with babesia. i've been basically on this regimen for almost 6 months. is this last mix what you're calling aggressive? any suggestions or concerns? thank you!
no one else on this board responded to my clindamycin question so am wondering if it is rarely used.....

I am currently taking clindamyacin with clarithromyacin. I guess I just like drugs that end in myacin.

I have been on Clyndamycin IV600mg two times a day for almost two months. I also take plaquenil, IV Zithromax once an day, and IV Rocephin 3 times a week (pulsing). In addition I take Mepron. I seem to have a resistant case of babesia. We tried IV Zithro, Mepron , and Plaquinil for over 6 months. I still would come up positive. So,we decided to switch to an alternative treatment for babesia which is Clyndamycin with an animalarial. I have noticed a great improvement in pain legs - the bone and tissue in my lower leg were extremely sore and tender. My dodtor kept me on the Zithro and the pulsed Rochephin to keep me covered for Lyme.Hope this answed you r questions.

I am a big biaxin supporter but if you throw toxoplasmosis into your mix then you are on the best combo possible for that and babesia. Clindamycin works well for babesia, malaria and toxoplasmosis. Mepron(atovaquone) also works well for babs and toxoplasmosis. Plaquenil is a good antimalarial and is supposedly used to lower cellular ph to allow for better abx penetration(again, that is a theory, i don't think anyone has proven it)

If you do have lyme on top of the other two infections then the zithromax might not be enough.

Another possible good mix could be biaxin, clindamycin, mepron and bactrim. However, you would really have to keep an eye on the liver with that combo. I have always felt that babesia treatment is more complete when bactrim is added to the mepron and macrolide antibiotic mix. But i feel the mix you are doing should work fine but do not stop until 2 months or more after symptom free.

The main thing to watch with clindamycin is that it has a well known connection with c-diff infections that usually start in the lower GI or colon. Do not miss a single day of acidophilus.

I didn't see that you have a possible bart infection too.

I would just follow your dr's orders because whoever he/she is, they know what they are doing. I don't know many that would even bother to look for toxoplasmosis.

It might be best to focus on the babs and toxo for now because your liver can only handle so much. Then go back after bart in the end possibly. Toxoplasmosis also has a highly protective cyst state that is difficult to penetrate. Did you own any cats throughout your life? Maybe the toxo was transmitted with the main tick bite.

Zithromax and clindamycin have some effect on bartonella so don't expect it to reproduce out of control or anything.

thank you soooooo much for your time and feedback phsinvent!!!!! i appreciate the information and knowledge you provided. I better understand and feel more confident about my treatment and also have some questions to ask as my treatment continues. also- thanks to others who answered my post who are also taking clindamycin.

strange thing is, i don't have cats- so either the toxopasmosis was transmitted with the tick bite or from a veggie garden i had years ago that cats occasionally deficated in.

lillimul, could you please tell me the LLMD you are using.  I am in the UK and would like to travel to USA for diagnosis/treatment.

I have "urethral pain syndrome" - I have had it for 6 years.  Doctors don't find anything in swabs.  I recently got a positive Fry test for the Bartonella like organism in my blood.  I had a Lyme Panel C done through a Lyme doctor here (neuroimmunology labs) - it came back indeterminate for Lyme but abnormal neurologic antibodies.  I feel upset that other tests (mycoplasma, virus, CD57 etc) could be done but I can't find anyone to help me.

I've definately got something as I have a high temperature and the pain/swelling improves after antibiotics.  In the last 18 months I have started to get loads of digestive problems and back/rib pain more suggestive of Lyme.

I had clindamycin for 1 week and it wasnt my 1st time pm it bt I had to stop because my herx was anxiety and panic and this intense burning sensation in my head. We never found out if it was toxoplasma or babs. I'm still having the issue 2 months later
