I seem to break out with pimples every once and a while. I am 45 so I am not a kid. Could it be related to a detoxing and the bad stuff coming out of my body?

Yeah, or possibly lyme messing with our hormones...I'm still breaking out constantly and I'm 30. :(

Hi,
The skin or derma is definitely affected by Bb but is tough to say if it is causing breaks outs. I started to have problems with breakouts when I was 45 and did not know I had Lyme. (Never had problems in my life).
I did see a dermatologist and I do have rosecea which can cause breakouts. My skin is of course more prone to breakout in the humidity of summer. If you can you might want to see a dermatologist. "Adult acne" can also occur later in life.
Maybe someone who detoxes will be able to give input on whether it is toxin related or not and can recommend a natural remedy.

I have always had breakouts... but nothing like I have them now. It is hard for me to believe that it is not Lyme related. I used to use Proactiv and my skin was awesome. I never even needed any makeup. Now it is awful. Nothing else has really changed in my life... except for the Lyme. I also think it is crazy that I am on Doxy (which is used for Acne) and my skin is worse than ever.

I'm on doxy and not breaking out. I am 33 but I did take Accutane for 4 months last year, before I got my Lyme dx. I do believe that when toxins are being released from your body you could develop acne. Once when my sister did a parasitic cleanse she broke out really bad.

They say your skin is your largest detox organ (yes it is considered an organ) and it makes perfect sense that toxins would try to come out of the skin first, the easiest exit. I am having many problems with acne and boils and the sauna I was doing was the only thing that helped and it helped alot. D

I think the acne is definitely due to the Borrelia infection. I'm 25 and never had any problems at all with acne until I started really effectively treating the Borrelia, then whamo.....pizza back. Most of my entire mid and upper back, from shoulder to shoulder, is a mess. I never even broke out when I was undiagnosed and sick with LD; the breakout didn't start until I started killing off that bacteria. (and FWIW I have a friend who is getting exactly the same sort of backne since she's started on Doxy for her LD)
I feel certain it's my skin trying to cast off the bacteria as it dies.

A few things that can cause acne later on in life are yeast, Bartonella and high testosterone levels in females. I would highly consider looking into these areas if you have lyme. Peace!

I don't know if it's related because I used to breakout on my face before I was bitten, but In the last few years I started to have breakouts on my back which I never did before. Sucks. I noticed mine cleared up with an extreme whole foods diet, but I am so thin I was losing weight like crazy. Once I started to fall of the wagon with my diet the acne came back.
