Seems to have quicker results than doxy for years upon years. That is anecdotal evidence only, but the research continues...

Heard it can be expensive, if insurance won't cover it, but heard that some do and it's effective. Give it a try.

The down side is wearing that line around and keeping it dry. For myself, I'd try it, but being that I'm accident prone etc., I'd be scared. But it bypasses the GI and people get well.

My doctor wants me to try this because of my severely depressed immune system. He says he's seen good results with it. If you can prove immunosuppression, then insurance may cover it. Good luck,

I am in the process of proving my immune deficiency, I retest on the 17th. I have done the  IGG injections for 6 months. Heres my question, I had no idea IVIG would directly help with the Lyme, you say it is better than doxy?? If you do the IVIG, will you need antibiotics also? Thanks. Also I wanted to say, you do not need a line, I know many people than do it weekly and it is through a vein in the arm like any other IV.  D

Keep Hope: I know how they test for immune deficiency as I am in the process right now. I am seeing an immunologist. They draw a blood sample and test it for pneumococcal antibodies and then they give you a pneumococcal vaccine and 6 weeks later they test your blood and see if your immune system made additional antibodies to it. If not, you are BORN immune-deificient. I worried about he vaccine for months but decided to finally do it after the doc told me the vacccine was not a "live" vaccine. I was fine, now just waiting for the results.   D

My understanding is that it helps Lyme by boosting the immune system. You can take ABX at the same time.
It is a tremendous help with neuropathy and fatigue.

I am starting IV antibiotics soon - I also did IvIg - if that is Gamma Globulin infusions...which I believe it is. I did this for 5 days every month for 4 months. I did not go to work when I did this and I did end up with a headache (which the neurologist gave me Fioricet for).

As for insurance issues - I have Oxford...they had only been covering 'maybe' 30% of my care, but when I was diagnosed with the neuropothies from my neurologist and he was able to get them to approve the IvIg - BAMM - I was able to appeal all of my old bills and now they are paying a bit over 70% of my coverage. Because once they approve that kind of treatment, they are admitting there is something wrong with you...unfortunately, most health insurance companies will not cover a lot of things initially - BUT, once they do, it can be used to appeal and you actually have a better chance through the appelate system to recover money spent and have them cover future expenditures.

Thank you Beth. I am eager to see the result of my test. I will know on Dec 1 and then will start the IVIG if insurance will pay and they should if the test shows immune problems. D
