I have had dull aching kidney pains

If this persists do ask for an x-ray or scan of your kidneys. My flank pain that was dismissed for years by doctors because I have fibromyalgia turned out to be a (very large by then!) kidney stone.

Not trying to scare you at all but it's better to be safe. Smiffy51 is correct.
Have your kidneys (both of them) x-rayed.
My dad was dismissed by lunatic doctors and it turned out to be a tumor -- the size of a football. It was removed but not before it spread. He's okay now, but imagine if it were caught early -- just like Lyme -- he'd have been in a much better position with both kidneys or one and half anyway.
If the doctors you know won't do it, go to another one until someone does. Surely there's a sane doctor somewhere?
Probably nothing KeepHope, but get it checked for peace of mind.
