Are these symptoms Lyme related, Drug Reaction or Something Else?

Hi all,

I am going through my 2nd round of treatment. I was on Amoxicillin for 4 weeks in October. Felt better for about month and then the night sweats and some new symptoms started to appear. My current symptoms are pain in my neck that feels like the lower back of my head is swollen, my spine feels inflammed at times. If I try to rub the spinal bone when it is inflammed pain radiates downward and across my shoulders. I wake up at night with my neck and head hurting  bad and I have to sleep on my side. I had a dull lower back pain if I sit down for too long. Sorry TMI but I also had constipation and hemorrhoid flare up as well like I have IBS or something.

I assumed this was Lyme again so an Infectious Disease Specialist started me on Ceftin 500MG 2x day on Tuesday. My neck is still hurting bad and I have had a major increase in lower back pain the past two days. It feels like my lower back is on fire and lying down makes it worse. I feel better standing up. I've been taking the Ceftin with food to cut down on the abdominal pain. I didn't have these symptoms in the 1st treatment. Does this sound like it is Lyme related, a reaction to the medicine, or could something else be wrong with me?  cry

Hi there,
sorry you are having symptoms. This definitely sounds like lyme as well as coinfections (babesia, bartonella or others). I would recommend reading Dr. Burrescano's Guidelines at:http://www.betterhealthguy.com/images/stories/PDF/LYMDXRX2008-October.pdf

You will also want to find a lyme literate doctor LLMD as soon as possible. Infectious Disease docs have a bias against chronic lyme (their guidelines say it does not exist) and they really don't know much about it. There is a huge controversy about lyme treatment that you will learn about as you keep researching. Learn as much as you can through this site and lymenet and get a good doctor! That will be your fastest way back to health!

Hi...

I am in my 5th week of treatment for Lymes Disease. The pain is so bad in my shoulder, back and the right side of my neck. There are some days I can't use my arm or turn my head. In the past week and half I have lost feeling in the right side of my neck,face and shoulder. I go into the hospital next week for Yet MORE testing for the Disease. I have read some of the messages here and am grateful that I have found this site because I have noticed we suffer from similar problems. The disease is not only effecting me but is now effecting my family. There are some days I can't even get out of bed.

How long will this last? Can I find a way to manager the chronic pain I am in?

you might want to ask your infectious disease doctor to add doxi to your ceftin, doxi helped with my pain but than I had to switch to Mino because it was supposed to help with cognitive issues, it did!

Thanks so much for responding. The back pain has finally started to subside. I have still have the neck pain with headaches but hopefully that will get better with time.

I have a question though. Is Lyme a curable diesease? I'm feeling discourage because I took antibiotics for a month before and those Lyme symptoms went away. I now have different Lyme smptoms. This treatment will get rid of those but then will the bacteria just hide away in other parts of my body? Is this an endless game of cat and mouse. God I just want the bacteria to die already. cry

Hi..

I know how you feel I'm starting to get the same way.  Its not only effecting me but my whole family. I'm scared I'm going to get in trouble at work because i cant do the job duties that are required of me anymore. I cant seem to make it through a full day of work anymore.

My whole family has been talking to people and doing there own research. My mom wants me to try a Mediterranean diet. I'm going to look into that tonight on line. don't know if you have read my forum "Chronic Pain" But I have lost total use of my right arm and no feeling in the right side of my face and neck. The Pain is staying in my shoulder, arm,neck and face. It started in my left knee. Its a pain I have never felt before.

I have been suffering from Graves Disease for almost 5 years now. had to go through chemo and radiation from it and the Lymes Disease is no joke. Nothing I have ever delt with in my life.

How long have you had yours again?

A member of my family found a Doctor who has this oxgen chamber that helps some how with the disease but is extremely expensive.

I hope try to have a happy new year. If your anything like me you will be up at 12 but now by choice.
