Its funny you should bring up testing your dogs. 3 years ago one of my dogs had a strange problem going on. She was miserable, could not stand could not sit and alot of panting. If you toched her she would go crazy like she was in alot of pain. She also started loosing her fur on her side of her rib cage about
the size of your fist(still has not grown back). We loaded her up in the car and took her to the vet. This was on a saturday and after examination and x rays he said that it could possibly be lyme disease(first time I ever heard about
lyme). Since it was a saturday no blood was took and did not want to wait on results so I told them to give the medication to treat it and would and would see how it goes. They prescibed doxycyline. After a couple days she really improved and finished the months worth of pills. The fur has never grown back but other than being fat and lazy she fine now.
about 6months later her puppy that I kept from her litter came down with the exact same thing I mean exactly. He could not move, panting, little hair loss on neck,if you toched him he would go crazy. Well this is were it gets wierd for me. Like I said he was miserable and I went to pick him up to take outside to use restroom(wouldnt walk) and he BIT a hole all the way through my hand. I still have the scars. We gave the same dosage of doxy with the same results. Within 2 weeks he was bouncing off the walls and still is. Then about 6 months later alot of my problems started. Niether were tested so I dont know if they really had it or not. I have never had a positive test through labcorp but the drs. belive I have it. I am still trying to figure out how I could have bartonella for 10+yrs and not know it. Oh well this my dog story with lyme.
