Tried Alinia and/or Artemisia annua for BABS??

Hello to Everybody ~

I am currently RE-treating babesia microti -- Zithromax + Mepron.

My retired LLMD recently told me that either Alinia or Artemisia can be added as a third medication (with Zithromax + Mepron) to treat babesiosis. He said either can be added IF Zithromax + Mepron fail to work.

Has anyone out there tried either of these above mentioned meds for the tx of babs, along with Zithromax + Mepron, OR either of these meds at any time? Alinia is a prescription med I have never heard of, and I don't know how long it's been on the market. I believe Artemisia is a herb, non-Rx? Where does one get this med? Is it manufactured under any other common names?

Also, if anyone knows of any useful links about either of these, please feel free to share.

I haven't tried the art yet but this one looks good. I may try it soon.

I posted a question about babs and asked what head problems one has with babs. Did you have head issues? Will you share with me your experience with babs. I don't know if I have it and am researching?

Alinia is used against Cryptosporidium and Giardia lamblia which are parasites in water causing diarrhoea; it's on the market since about five years I think; the substance is Nitazoxanid, it's sold a lot in Middle and South America; I did not know anything about usage against babs - that`s very interesting!

Thanks for the info. I actually have been searching the site and reading.

As far as head issues, do you mean things like the feeling of pressure in the head, the feeling you get in your head just before you think you might faint -- or other head issues such as cognitive, memory, and task performance? I have experienced all of these.

When I initially researched babesia, I came across a lot of physical issues -- such as extreme muscle weakness, fevers up to 102, nausea, loss of appetite, malaise, extreme fatigue.

Later in my research, I came across more information about the psychological/emotional problems caused by babesia; however, I can't recall the sites. I'm planning on looking again, since this is a recurrence of babesia for me.

Chronic low-grade fevers and extreme fatigue are my most problematic symptoms.

Hi Carrie,

My daughter was taking the zithromax, mepron & artemisinin combo for babesia.  Just an FYI -- if you suffer from panic/anxiety attacks, the anti-malarial drugs can cause hallucination with the attacks.  She had a couple of bad panic attacks with hallucinations.  I wanted you to be aware of this because we weren't.  She is taking a break from them now and working on the bartonella which we didn't know she had.

Just saw your post. I have had steady progress fighting Babesia (and continuing) using Malarone along with Artemesia from www.hepapro.com. I take 6 Malarone a day and 12 Artemesiae capsules, 6 in morning 6 at night (had to gradually build up to that). My tests show continuing killing off of Babesia. I tke one day a week off as it is very tiring. I am lucky that I am retired and not working otherwise I would have to lower the Artemesia as it wears me out from the parasite die off.

Good luck to you. Keep at it as Babesia is very serious. My opinion is that your LLMD is not up to date on what he needs to do to attack Babesia.

I'm taking one Artemisinin three times a day, along with Mepron and Zithro. My llmd also suggested the Art from Allergy Research. Good luck.

Yes, I'm aware that Mepron is very helpful for Babesia. The only thing to watch with Mepron is if you'd had heart trouble because Mepron depletes your body's CO Q 10 which your heart must have. Unfortunately, for me, I've had to avoid Mepron due to prior heart problems.

Curious to know how the Alinia course went...I am on day 6 and have developed diarrhea...don't know if it is due to die-off or if it's unrelated or if it's making me worse.

I've been on Alinia and zithromax for several weeks now for Babesia. I KNOW it's having some kind of an effect because I'm having Babesia "herxes".....serious "air hunger" attacks plus drenching sweats, both of which are very indicative of Babs. Taking the Alinia plus the zith stirred up the Babs sort of like stirring up wasps by hitting a wasp nest with a stick.

How long have you been at this? Looking at your list, that doesn't all come to be overnight. Are you any better?

If it's me....well, I was just dx with Lyme in January, so I've only been on abx for 6 months. Not better yet. sad

DocGP, this is an old thread but I was wondering how you fared on the Alinia? I am on a 2 week pulse per month and my first day I had the worst diarrhea and I also herxed for 3 days with each day getting better than the previous. The diarrhea seemed to go away but picked back up again for about the last 5 days of the pulse. I am going to start my next pulse on the 6th (I need to make it an hour and 15 minutes there and back to the doctors on the 5th). Just wondering how it went for you.
