I am posting this for a friend. She is pretty sure that she has LD because of her history and posative bands through igenex. She has been sick for 20 yrs.

We live in GA and she needs a LLMD but they are hard to come by around here. My doctor is not taking any more right now. She is very sick and depressed and doesen't know what to do at this point. She doesen't really trust doctors anymore. They all tell her something different.

She also has very bad neck (disk degeniration?) pain and back pain, headaches flue type aches etc....

She really needs surgery on her neck but is scared to get it because of the untreated LD.

Should she do it? Have anyone of you been through major surgery w/ LD?

She has had surgery in the past and became very ill afterwards.

I really wish I could get her to a LLMD.

Any sugestions?

I am not a doctor but I also have the bad neck. What I would suggest is for her to try to treat the Lyme BEFORE any major surgery. My neck problems are from an old car accident but are aggravated by the Lyme. When the Lyme is "quiet" the neck is much better. So, definately have her try some sort of treatment first. Neck surgery is just too risky, I would not consider it and yes they recommended it to me. That was over 20 years ago.  D

Thanks Dowa. What have you found out about your neck? Is it degenerative disks as well?
My friend is desperate for some relief at this point....major pain constantly.....

Yes, degeneration and I had two ruptured disks from the accident. Also x-ray showed osteo-arthritis. I have a few friends that have had surgery without good results and I just would not take the risk. Lyme almost always involves the neck, that is why I suggested she try some kind of treatment first. D

Hi georgiagirl!

did your friend have an MRI done of the neck and back? does she know it is disc degeneration or could it also be a prolaps or muscle tenseness; the tenseness may sound bit funny as you wrote she is in bad condition but one should never underestimate that. My neightbour ended up in hospital unable to move, low fever since months, real bad shape and it turned out that she had such a severe tenseness that her nerves got inflamed. She had no clue what was causing her bad shape at that time, she was really afraid of being really sick. (no lymie)

Maybe more details make it easier to estimate the success of lyme treatment and she may in addition have some physiotherapeutic help.

Just what I would do.....

Thanks alot. Yes, an MRI of her neck showed the problem. She is in so much pain all over that she doesen't know where to start.

I have had major surgery with lyme. It wasn't fun, but everything ended up ok.

Thanks Greentea. I will pass this on to her. What type of surgery did you have if you don't mind me asking? Where were you in your lyme treatment?

My neck shows many issues on MRI of disc and nerve problems and  I was in so much pain I couldn't stand it. However soon as I began treatment for lyme and babesia the pain almost comopletely went away. When I over do it I get achey neck but that is it. So I would advise getting treatment for co-infections and lyme first. Many MDs suggested I get surgery, I am happy I didn't. Blessings

She is in bad shape. The doctors are telling her that one wrong move or wreck etc. and she could be paralized for life. She is so scared and in so much pain.

It all sounds so miserably familiar even being told one wrong move could paralyze me. They must all take that same class in med school. Hope she improves soon.

I had hernia surgery last December and was ok for about 48 hours afterwards, then had a pretty substantial worsening of my LD symptoms. Any of us could easily guess that surgery is going to weaken your immune response for some period of time afterwards, and I feel like that's exactly what happened to me.  For a short period of time my weakened immune system was able to hold it's ground, then crashed.  3rd day after the surgery I began suffering brain fog so severe I think I could've easily been misdiagnosed as having Alzheimers. Worse than it'd ever been before.

My .02 is that if your friend's surgery is really as imperative as the physicians think, then she needs to work those immune system supports hard for a month before the procedure, then restart it all immediately afterwards. A good quality Cat's Claw, glutathione, ALA and CoQ10, and if she can tolerate it, large doses of C.
