Hi,

Can we take these anti inflammatories with Lyme...I sure do NEED one.

I have tendonnitis that, I believe characteristic of Lyme, comes and goes.

To those anti inflammatory meds - ass, paracetamol and ibuprofen - one may want / have to consider:

There is apparently a difference in metabolizing / effectiveness of those substances between female and male (!!)

in general women who are on the pill do metabolize the paracetamol quicker (the antipain and antiinflammatory effect is shorter);
the half-life period of ass in women who do not take the pill is significantly longer than in women who take the pill (= resorption is linked to hormons)
ibuprofen is less effective for women

(and also: ass used to prevent heart attacks works different in females/ males:
in females: reduction of stroke rate, no reduction of heart attack rate
in males: risk for heart attacks decreases but risk of strokes increases)

ass is acetylsalicylacid like in aspirin and paracetamol has apparently another name in the US (always something new to learn!) - i found this on wikipedia: In North America, paracetamol is sold in generic form (usually labeled as acetaminophen) or under a number of trade names, for instance, Tylenol (McNeil-PPC, Inc.), Anacin-3, Tempra, and Datril.

The quercetin also works as an antihistamine and antioxidant.

I took quercetin only when I think my virus symtomes flare up, mostly for relaxing my muscles ( I had twice a year high fever for one week - in October and February, like a clockwork, no malaria thou... strange, hum??); I did 1000mg Isoquercitrin then (Quercetin-3-0-Glukosid); there are different "rumors" it may be good against virus too.

For lyme and infections I preferred wobenzym. I like it and for me it is effective.
I started with 3x5 pills for 2 weeks and then two weeks 3x7 pills and then for 3 months 3x 10 pills;
then slowly down again to 3x5 for a month and then up again for a second three months time. Slowed down again and finally a 3 months period with 3x5. So I think I used it within the wide range of possible dosages.

Dorit - Did you take the Wobenzyme with your ABX regime ? I love what Ive read about it : and actually bought some - but have been holding off cos I am taking Ketek and Amoxicillin and I am worried about interactions ?

I was told to avoid NSAIDS like ibuprofen or naproxen no matter what...and to eat anti-inflammatory diet and take enzyme supplements like bromelain (or Wobenzyme) instead.

janem - you may check usage of the wobenzym while being on abx with your llmd or with sb from your pharmacy b/c wobenzym does increase the abx concentration /level in the body;
I started the wobenzym at the very end of abx (which I tolerate very bady): I cut abx dosage slowly down and started with the wobenzym.

This is what I know:
the meloxicam belongs to the NSAIDS which work by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX); there are two types of these enzymes cox-1 and cox-2, they differ slightly in structure and are in differnt types of cells /tissue. Meloxicam influences the cox-2 and has less side effects than those which influence the cox-1. I always got a itchy rash from meloxicam and do not use it any more. But my skin is its own cosmos anyway.
Those NSAIDS also influence the thrombocyte coagulation. A dose of 200mg aspirin i.e. causes an irreversible inhibition of blood coagulation of thrombocytes for their entire lifetime of about 12 days. They have different side effects and when taken in combo are not a benefit for our kidneys. I think all this is why some docs dont want us to take them (maybe they can immagine that we might take a lot of them ....)

I personally do not know if we should not take them b/c of lyme and co
I have been told that inflammation is part of a healing process (a kind of response of the affected tissue) which enables the affected area to get rid of patogenes/ toxins by starting different biochemical processes.
So - the challence would be to support the tissue in the healing process but not necessarily interact / interfere which a chemical load which on the one hand stops the inflammation and/ but on the other hand interacts with a lot of other biochemical procedures in our body which then need to get regulated again too ( kind of endles chain, maybe).

I personally have a kind of deal with myself: if pain really should get too much I go and knock me out of it with a good painkiller mix.

Agreed, and also another good natural anti inflam is Tumeric. I use it and it works wonders for me. But of course the best way to keep inflammation down is to eat a diet that will not promote the inflammation to begin with.

I was told to take 500mg of quercetin three times a day. It works best when taken with bromelain and vitamin C. There are some abx, like Levaquin, that bind with many herbs, vitamins and minerals including quescetin, so they need to be taken at least two hours apart.

The supplement Resveratrol is an anti-inflammatory.  The prescription med Plaquenil is an anti-inflammatory and is sometimes prescribed with antibiotics to help them work more effectively.
