Bitten........AGAIN!!!

I was scratching my back last night, and guess what I found? That's right, another deer tick embedded in my skin. I've got a small red mark where it bit me. I'm still on a rotating schedule of antibiotics, but I'm wondering if it's enough to keep me from getting infected again or infected by another strain of what I've already got. I don't know how long the tick was on me. The only thing I recall doing yesterday was getting my mail. I don't even think I stepped in the grass. That means it probably got on my Tuesday when I was outside. I'm not sure if I should inform my doctor. He's probably sick of hearing from me. Any thoughts?

Call your doctor and let him know. Thats his problem if he is tired of hearing from you. Thats what you pay him for. And we pay them enough of money to complain and ask questions.

I am so sorry to hear this!! Do you still have the tick? There`s this possiblility to get it tested. I agree with ria - call your doc, it is their job to help and we pay them. On which abx are you right now? May be your doc would like you to switch abx due to the tick bite!

I was initially bitten in 2002 - went on orals - did very well...took about 2 1/2 years. Got bitten again in October 2008 - doc put me on orals just to be safe - well, that went over like a lead balloon - I was getting sicker and sicker - she did the CD57 and I was a 19. I am now on IV Rocephin since February and am starting doxy next week (in addition).
You can get the tick tested in this place in germantown, md. If you want the info, I can get it for you. But you can definitely be re-infected.

Sry for crapy typing -having a bad brain day but will do all I can to help.

Thanks, everyone, for your help.

I didn't save the tick. I flushed it so that it would crawl back on to me or one of my pets. Those deer ticks are really small and hard to kill. I didn't think about saving it for testing. This is probably going to happen again. I live in an area heavily populated by deer.

I left a message for my doctor. I've been on antibiotics for over a year. I've improved, but I haven't been able to beat this thing. I've had a couple of relapses. I'm currently on Zithromax, Plaquenil, Omnicef, Artemesinin, and Flagyl. I'm on a pulsing schedule. This week is a higher abx time, so hopefully that will knock out anything I might have been exposed to before it can take hold of me. I'll keep an eye out for any rash. I got a rash the first time, but it wasn't bulls eye shaped. I've also never tested positive for Lyme, but I've test positive for babesia and my CD 57 is low.

Wow this is strange to me cause I live where we have ticks and almost every spring me or one of my sons gets a tick on them and I just pick them off and go about our day. They have caused no problems or diseases for us...but maybe its the kind of tick I don't know....deer ticks cause lyme disease but not these ones I guess. I heard lyme desease was curable? I think up here in the north our immune systems are tougher...sad to hear about how this effects people...I'm going to go and read more up on this lyme disease. God bless

Remember that if ticks are removed before they've been attached for 48 hours, they usually do not transmit the disease. If you find a tick on you and remove it, only about 2 percent of those bites result in Lyme disease.

My doctor seems to think that I should be fine since I'm still on antibiotics. I hope he's right.

I've heard about different rules about how long the tick needs to be biting before the disease can be transmitted. Frankly, I'm not sure that I believe them. No one seems to be able to agree on how long it takes. I also don't understand why it would take so long when other diseases don't take that long to transmit. With my original infection, I got a rash on my ankle. There's no way a tick was on my ankle for that long without my noticing it. I guess it could have migrated somewhere else and bitten me again. It just doesn't make sense to me.
