My health food store has a new green product that is supposed to be as good as Green Vibrance but without the nasty taste, but it contains Stevia is that safe for us?

Years ago I was advised by a holistic doctor at Beth Israel in NY to use stevia instead of sugar. There are different brands out there and some taste better than others. I prefer pure liquid Clear Stevia by NuNaturals. I made the mistake of buying other brands and ended up throwing them in the garbage.

My wife says stevia leaves an aftertaste in her mouth too. To me the aftertaste is minimal.

Stevia use to leave a taste in my mouth until I tried TRUVIA. Walmart sells it in the sugar aisle and it is really good. I like it more than the liguid drops I use to use.

Stevia is very safe. I use it in my green tea. The nurse that supplies my supplements recommended it.

My LLMD told me to use stevia too. I get mine at a local healthfood store.

Stevia tastes very bitter to me, and my tongue swells if I take it by itself instead of mixed in with something. Is Xylitol an acceptible alternative?
Thanks,

Razzle,
I'm just wondering why you would take Stevia by itself? Is there something I don't know about
? LOL

When testing a new food, I always try it by itself first. I have a lot of allergies/intolerances, and this has been my most successful way of determining whether something is safe for me or not. If it is mixed with someting else, I have no way of knowing which ingredient caused any potential reaction symptoms.
So for the stevia, I tried 1 drop of the liquid on my tongue. And that is when I experienced the tongue swelling and icky bitter taste.

Razzle - this is funny with the stevia - I tried it some years back and had the feeling it makes my throat swelling. We had only access to the tea (Stevia rebaudiana) - at least for biologically grown quality. EU throwed it off the market. But the Xylitol makes my curious; I have heard about
the sugar study from Finland or so - the stuff kills caries and seems to have a lot of positive effects. Can you buy it in a healthy food store in "bio- quality"in the States? greetings to you, dorit

Hi dorit,
Greetings to you, too. Yes, xylitol is available here in health food stores. My Husband mixes one of his medcations with xylitol crystals instead of Splenda, and says that his tooth sensitivity is going away.
Take care,

Hi everyone, I got my mother to use stevia years ago, rather than artificial sweeteners. At the time I was trying to get myself to like it but it tastes too much like the artificial sweeteners for me. At that time I was trying agave nectar, which is probably not on our recomended diet for the Lyme. It has a minimal effect on blood sugar levels. I liked that, so I didn''t try the xylitol. Now I'm trying to get myself to use the stevia again, but prefer my tea with out any sweetener at this point.

Stevia gives bladder issues. I feel like I have to pee all the time. After many years of artificial sweeteners I am back to regular sugar. I know that is bad but everything else gives me problems.
I have heard good things about
xylitol.

I have tried Xylitol and it really does taste like sugar. I'm no fan of sweeteners so Xylitol became the perfect replecement of sugar, although it is a tad on the pricey side.
It was also on the list of acceptable foods for Candida.
I've never made anything with it like a cake or
cookies though but hope to soon.
