This is not related to lyme...but has anyone here had fractured or broken ribs? I took a major fall off a chair yesterday, falling about 4 feet and landing on the side of the chair on my left lower ribs. My boyfriend took me to the ER a few hours later, but they said I'd be there for hours and hours before I'd even get taken in to see a doc, so I left. Have an appt with my primary doc tomorrow. It is really painful, though, and I couldn't sleep, feel a little nauseous when I lie down. Any advice? I would take some major painkillers (which I hate taking) but I don't have any.

WOW - this can hurt!! sorry to hear about it, alfers!! yeah I had a broken rib as a teeny when a horse decided not to carry me around any longer and got rid of me with a drastic action .....I made a kind of salto mortale and landed one some stones and peaces of wood. I think my rib was the first part of my body making contact. I could hardly breath. It hurted like crazy and I got a huge bruise too. I needed to lay for a week and had a kind of upper body bandage for some time. But I think it healed quite good and faster than I thought it would.

yes i have had both broke and burised ribs b4, you need to have a x-ray done as soon as you can.if yours are broke and depinding on where they can pouncher a lung, this is dangerus. this is 1 reson why they dont rap you for it nowadays. i also found out no matter what pain pills they give you nothing helps. so sorry this happened to ya. it took me about 2 wks b4 i was able to sleep or breath without wanting to die.also bruised ribs hurt just as badly but doesnt last as long.

Alfers: I broke several ribs and cracked my sternum (among other things) in a car accident years ago. It will be good to get an xray but they do not bandage your chest or anything like that. Good news is, ribs heal very quickly but be careful to take it easy as I have one that did not heal properly,  most likely due to doing too much . I was a young mother at the time and my son was also injured severely and had to tend to him as well.  So, take it easy so it can heal properly. Is is extrememly painful in the beginning but should not last too long.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to the doc tomorrow and probably getting an xray then. I did just see my physical therapist (I was going there for an old back injury), and they said it does not feel good...feels like either I cracked the ribs in a few places or like the muscles are so screwed up that they're pulling a rib out of place. Fun fun. So I'm going to just try to lie around the rest of the day. Dowa, thanks for telling me to take it easy...I tend to want to do things too quickly, and I need to be reminded to give my body time to heal!

Homeopathic Arnica may be helpful for the pain. When my husband broke his ribs, he found the Arnica to be very good.

OUCH! I'm so sorry that happened to you. I have very sore and painful ribs that hurt off and on. When they do hurt, I can barely move and they aren't broken so I can just imagine what you are going through.

Good luck at the doctors office today. I hope you get relief from this soon.
