Hi Dorit,
Since I can't swallow anything right now, I'm not able to take the fatty acid supplements. However, I have been given lipids via IV but when I get them, my liver goes nuts and doesn't like them. So my Naturopath is working on trying to get me a different formula of lipids to try via IV. I'm sorry if I mislead you into thinking I was taking fatty acid supplements...that was not my intention...
Info I've read about the essential fatty acids suggests several different ratios of Omega 3 to Omega 6, so I don't know what is best. It probably depends on the person, their needs, and dietary intakes. I do know that the typical diet today has more Omega 6 so that is one reason the fish oil supplements or eating oily fish (salmon, tuna, etc.) are recommended. I've also read that grass fed organic beef has a better balance of fatty acids than regular beef.
I know some say flaxseed oil is a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids. That is true but I've also read that men have a more difficult time converting the omega 3 from flaxseed oil into a useable form. So yes, flaxseed oil is good, but the fish oil give more bang for the buck when it comes to omega 3 fatty acids.
I hope this helps......take care,
