Could this be Lyme? Doctor is not concerned...

Hi there everyone,

My toddler has/had what appeared to me to be a bullseye rash on her leg - it was slightly larger than a quarter in diameter. I noticed what I thought to be a mosquito bite last night, and then this afternoon noticed it had changed into a bulls eye shape. I brought her into the doctor and when we got there, it was not nearly as distinct - it was still fairly large in diameter, but now it just looked all red.

The doctor was not at all concerned, just said to call if it got any bigger. He didn't seem concerned when I told him that earlier in the day, it was a definate bulls eye shape - told me that it could be 'any bugbite'.

I don't know how to post pics, but I'll try - I did get a picture of it immediately when I noticed it today:

Do you think it could be Lyme? Does the whole bulls eye thing matter even if it was only apparent for less than 24 hours? We never found a tick on her, although I know that does not really matter. My sister has chronic Lyme and is really really struggling and is very sick - I just don't know if I'm being overly paranoid...

It is good you took photos of your daughter's rash.  If it changes, take more photos.  If you are unable to post the photo here, you can email it to me at [email protected]   Although only about 50% of people who have Lyme ever get a rash, a bull-eye rash is a definite sign of Lyme.  There are other tyupes of Lyme rashes also.  Here are a few sites where you can see Lyme rash photos:

Does your daughter's rash look like any of these?  I don't think you are being paranoid at all, you are being cautious.  I am sorry your sister is so sick.  I hope she is getting treated by a knowledgeable doctor.  If you need a doctor recommendation for her, feel free to email me.

If your daughter does have Lyme, the sooner she is properly treated the better.  She is very lucky to have such a good mommy!

I am sorry you must face this stressful situation but I encourage you to get help from a llmd soon! The best chance for your toddler to get rid of this "germ" is to treat it NOW. I am glad you already know some things about lyme so that you can "fight the good fight" on behalf of your child. You are not paranoid. You have a good reason to seek help. A bullseye rash is plenty of reason-----and doctors that dismiss this evidence are all too common. Find a better doc! The old saying---an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure----good advice!
