Thyroid question...again

TSH was 4.45 in March.

Saw Endo. Put me on synthroid at the end of April. Been 3 months, TSH is now 3.90.
He said it should be a "1"

Question..is it normal for it to barely move after being on meds for 3 months? See my endo this week just wondering what to expect?

what was your TSH when you started your meds and what dosage of Synthroid are you taking?

4.2 at start

Hi Lovelabs.  What dose of Synthroid have you been taking?

It is best to start a a low dose and then retest in several weeks.  Then small increases are made accordingly.  So it can take time for levels to improve.

Did this doctor test your Free T3 and Free T4?  If not, I suggest asking to have them tested the next time.  I do not think it is good to treat solely by the TSH results.

I had the T3 and T4 test done and was normal. It was just the TSH that was high. .025 MCG - been on it for 3 months. Didn't move it down that much. Didn't know if it was supposed to take time to go down.

Hi Lovelabs.  There are T3 and T4 tests and there are Free T3 and Free T4 tests.  Did you have the T3 and T4 tests or the Free T3 and Free T4 tests done?  Sorry, but the Free T tests are important.  Even if results are in the normal range, there is a lot of room for improvement within the range if symptoms are still present.

Did your doctor increase your dose?

CajunGrl, I could never hate you!

I think it is a good idea to have a thyroid board; however, the difficulty is that sometimes Lyme disease affects thyroid function.  I think it is important for people who are new to Lyme and new to the site to know this.   I think it may be hard for some to jump back and forth between boards.

I won't post any more about thyroid issues here.  If I can help anyone who has questions, feel free to email me.
