My sister asked me this question and I had never thought of this before.  My LLMD and I think after 1 year plus of treatment, the Lyme is gone along with any other co-infections I had.  Can the Bartinella hide like the Lyme? 

I'd love to see what you long timers think!

That's a good question. In my opinion and what Ive read, Bartonella resides more in the brain. I'm assuming that it why it causes neuro problems and why it is so hard to treat. The antibiotic has got to break the blood brain barrier to kill off Bartonella and not many do. I think IV Rocephen is one that does.

I'm sure others will chime in to give you more info.

there are many people who have persistent infection after one year of treatment so be careful to believe it is gone after that.

IV Rocephin does cross the blood brain barrier but is not affective for Bartonella. There are some meds that are. There are old posts done by a member who had a tremendous amount of information on the subject of bartonella that is worth bumping up as many have this issue that appears to last much longer than one year. I'll try to find it an post it.
