Dr.Oz was talking about infrared saunas on the Oprah show last week and mentioned people using it to treat Lyme. I've been looking into it and am thinking of getting a portable model from Sunlight Saunas. Does anyone have any advice on the matter?

I am going to be getting one myself. I was told to get the large because the x-large fits people 6 foot and up.

What do the prices look like at Sunshine Saunas?

It's $2,400 for the portable dome from Sunlight Saunas. That's the company mentioned on Oprah and they seem to be the best that I've found as far as quality and warranty go.

The dome is 69" long and the infrared pad is 72". You can either lay or sit or even just use half the dome. I especially like the choice of having my head stick out :)

That is alot of money for a portable sauna. Heavenly heat only gets around $2800. for their sauna (not portable) I am a member of a MCS forum that buy their portables on Ebay for $300. and are very pleased with them. Look on Ebay before you spend that much for portable. I will try to get you the info about them.  D

I was going to say that that was alot too. I'm about to buy one off of eBay too. I also want to tell anyone that is new to eBay to be sure the seller is a Power Seller, especially if your spending alot of money. DO NOT do any outside sales with anyone. This could be a scam! Make sure when you check out, that paypal is available to pay for your item. You can get insurance for a few dollars to protect and cover your item in case something happens.

I found one for $169.00!! It has a place for your hands to come out, a remote control holder, lol. The outer part unzips so you can wash it and it also cones with a chair and a foot messager. That's a good deal!

I just recently received mine.  I purchased the one off of Ebay for $169.  I received it within a few days.  I have yet to use it though, as I have family here from out of town and I have been playing "tour guide", LOL.  I will let you know how I like it as soon as I am able to use it. But it was definitely the best buy.

I bought one off of eBay, also, from the seller yescomusa. It was around 169.00 It was great until I melted the doggone thing.......the instructions (which are poorly translated into
English, and very hard to decipher) state to let the sauna pre-heat for 5 minutes with the zipper open so that the temp. will increase rapidly. Unfortunately, I let it pre-heat for more like 25 min. so the electrical box kind of melted. Thanksfully, the yescomusa folks are replacing it at NO COST!! I just had to send photos. I can't wait to get the new one. Thanks for the advice I got from you guys about not wiping sweat with a towel, rinsing off in the shower instead.

Wow, thanks for letting us know that! I got mine from yescomusa too and I didn't know you had to keep it unzipped. Thank God my husband kept it unzipped!

I really like mine and it heats up fast. The only thing I didn't like was the mini-me chair, lol. I think I'm gonna try to put a regular foldable chair in there.

love your name by the way...my husband has lyme and we also saw the dr. oz show...the sunlight sauna's are supposed to have a special technology where by it heats you up from the inside out and allows you to produce more sweat, and toxins...i'm sure you know this from the website...we will be purchasing one of the two person units, eventually...because my husband has a picc line and we were told to hold off for now because sweating is not good for the picc line as it can lead to infections...they are expensive but i think it is something that we will use for the rest of our lives (i think of it as a type of gym membership) and as you know they have a lifetime warranty on all parts...my husband did his homework on this and feels they are the best...will be devoting my spare bedroom to this unit...please let me know if you purchase one...we've got to do whatever we can to make those darn spirochetes uncomfortable!!!

Hey, CajunGirl, you keep it unzipped to heat up, but then zip it when you get in.
The tiny chair that came with it is a joke; I did put a regular fold up chair in it. I like the arm openings coz I can hang my PICC arm out and it doesn't get all sweaty.

That's good to know about the picc line. I'm afraid I may have one soon myself. I have alot of neurological problems. I'm waiting to be accepted by a new doctor.

I actually bought a sunlight model off of ebay for half the regular price. It's a lay down portable model and it's sooo nice. You can use it sitting or do just your legs too if you want. I can't tell if it's really doing anything for me yet, but it's only been a few days.

I have just started using mine in earnest this week. I definitely seem to feel better after using it. Maybe it is just the therapuetic warmth that seems to help my muscles. Either way, I have been slowly trying to work up to 30 minutes. I have been doing 20 minutes at 135 degrees. Has anyone else not sweated a great deal? I guess since my model, your head sticks out, I develop some sweat on my arms and legs, but little elsewhere. I guess I have this vision of needing to be sweating from head to toe to get the benefit.

I do 20 minutes at 146 and I sweat from head to toe even though my head sticks out. I've found that I need that slightly higher heat to get up a good sweat. You can tell that it's doing something to your cardiovascular system if you get a red checker board pattern on your thighs.
