Doxy experiences...?

I'm about halfway through my bottle of Doxycycline. As I stated in my other post, almost 24 hours after my first dose, all of my symptoms increased. Then I had a Flagyl pulse and they got even worse yet. Now, I am done with Flagyl...it's been two days...the shakiness that Flagyl brings on has diminished and the anxiety is not AS bad (still there). I'm worried though because my legs still feel so heavy and weak and my balance has not gotten better either. I feel really out of it...even in the mornings, which used to be an 'okay' time of day as far as fog for me.

What I'm wondering is if you herxed on Doxy, how long did it last? Is what I'm experiencing truly a herx? I do not have the typical flu-like stuff...all I have is worsening of symptoms and it doesn't seem to be going away at all. I've been on it for two weeks I think.

Any ideas?

I have yet to herx on Doxy, but when I was on Mino I herxed pretty bad. It didn't include any flu-like sx for me either - just the horrible increase of sx!!

From the small amount that you described, it sounds like a herx to me - but I also am no expert!!

If I was you I would stay on the Doxy & try to get through this. Do you have a 'Lymie-buddy' to help you get through some of this

on a more personal level? That was the only way I got through it. I also have just enjoyed having another Lymie to talk over other things as well.

Another thing that happened for me was that I kept going through herxes (off & on - not continuous) the whole time I was on Mino.

It got pretty old too!! I was on Mino 1 yr & got scared because of seizures starting. My mistake was not getting back on abx asap!

I hope someone can better answer your question soon for you.

Jendays -- shew, I hate seeing so much misery w/ Doxy --- in you, AND the fact that I'll probably have to get back on it after 1 mo of Amox.

Still, if you are still feeling so bad, I believe you need to skip a day or 2 before getting back on it. Partly to hopefully relieve some of the herx and/or stuff caused by Doxy. AND partly to be able to determine if this is a rough side effect, or possibly a definite herx.

With my relapse in March, after the sinusitis that triggered it subsided, and after 3 weeks of Biaxin, I was on 5 weeks of Doxy. March into April, the vertigo ws subsiding, but I still felt like my head was not quite in the same place as my body. In all that time, it never felt really flu-like. It was mostly all pain, all over and moved around, in muscles, joints and the doctors called it parasthesia but I didn't have tingling in my nerve endings, only pain all over my skin, mosly hands and feet. It was never unbearable, but it was not going away.

In May, when I began the IV ceftraixone, I found out what herx really was and it was really good that I knew to expect it or I would have thought I belonged in the hospital or something. I felt weaker than I think I've ever felt and no energy to move, and for several days the pain was worse, and it was almost imediate, within 48 hrs. of the first dose. Then, ever so slowly day by day, week by week, everything improved. The only place that still hurt was my back, but I had also fallen down the steps in March when I was still having vertigo.

By June I was still weak, and tired, but partly from the meds. Oh, I was on Flagyl the entire time I was on the IV and for a week after. I still have slight stiffness in my knees and neck on and off, but I've been doing a lot and not streching enough.

I hope this helps to answer your question. I don't know if I was herxing in April or if the disease was just causing all of the symptoms, but I definitely did herx in May, once on the IV.

Hi Jendays,

My daughter and I both felt very bad on doxy ALL the time, and never felt better. We asked the doc how we would know if it was a herx or a reaction to the drug and he said we wouldn't know---it can be hard to tell. He said it was not a good thing that we continually felt bad/worse while on the drug. Anyway, he determined we could not continue taking it and we never did again. Be sure to stay in touch with your doctor and make sure he knows all your symptoms/reactions. That way he can determine if you should continue with the drug or stop it.
