Very interesting! 121 cases reported in Louisiana and even more in Texas! But, we don't have Lyme Disease here! And these are the ones that are reported, not the ones that go undetected or get misdiagnosed....OR the ones like me that have Lyme but have a negative test.

That is cool. I guess the only worse state than PA would have been NY. I never liked this state, now I know why!j/k.
It makes you wonder how many people out there have lyme's disease and are being told there is nothing wrong with them. Especially in those states with a very low number of people who have been reported to have lyme. I feel so bad for those people!

Thanks so much for posting this, CajunGrl (missed this one too)! Interesting the spike in "reported" cases in my home state of Maryland since 2005, and that we are 7th nationwide. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I am glad more cases are being reported, as they can only serve to heighten the awareness of the disease. But I still wonder how many poor folks (especially those with chronic Lyme) are walking around with it who don't have the slightest idea they have it (like myself prior to 2008).

My doctor thinks I've been having this since I was a child but my worse symptoms started five years ago. I was one of those walking around not knowing what I had. It wasn't until I researched that I finally figured it out. I'm sure there are many that still don't know though, just like you stated.

IgG is positive, so i'm chronic... i could've got this when i camped all the time when i was very young, could've got it a year ago.. who knows... but i was a walking zombie for about 2 months without knowing what i had.. It felt like i could drop dead any day...

This all started right before i sold my house and had to change my lifestyle drastically.. I believe my immune system was shot... this brought the chronic lyme to a head... when i was stable and happy, no problems, became unstable and stressed=problems started..

its all about keeping your immune system healthy...

I find it interesting that so many doctors claim there is no Lyme in their state, when there are no states with "0" reported cases...somehow they are using different math system than what I was taught in school...

I know! I think it all boils down to them not being educated enough about it so they don't want to deal with it. Well, that's my theory anyway. Sad either way.

The amazing thing to me is how dramatically the numbers are increasing (although some of this is due to better awareness, diagnosis, etc.).  Regardless, this disease is spreading rapidly.  The sad thing is so many people aren't being properly diagnosed.  The latest CDC figures from last year estimate that as many as 400,000 people became infected.  The question that remains is why isn't there more public and professional education (especially in endemic areas) and such a surprising lack of funds for research?

CG thank you for this post.

now i find this very odd. when you have a chart that shows 1 state with only 16 reported cases total and yet i know for a fact they have at least 3 LLMDs in that state. and all serounding states have low numbers also.

then you have my state Tx. 1,837 reported cases and i cant find 1 remotely close to me. its so wrong.
