While I have not officially been started on Lyme treatment, there are some things that have proven helpful for some of my symptoms:
Herbs/Homeopathy/Supplements:
Milk Thistle - liver is a lot happier on it...liver doesn't hurt anymore, and liver enzyme tests are normal when I take the milk thistle
Nettles - joint pain, wandering leg pain, hand/wrist stiffness/pain all goes away on the Nettles
Acidophilus - helps settle my stomach & keep bowels functional
Acute ViroReliever (homeopathy) - helps my low lymphocyte counts come up to right around the low end of normal
Ailanthus - just started this one, and my energy level has been slowly improving since I started it...
Rescue Remedy (Bach Floral Remedy Mix) - helps with nervousness/anxiety, stress/trauma (emotional)
Homeopathic Causticum - helps restless legs/joints, joint pain, wandering leg pain, hand pain
Vitamin B12 (Methyl-B12 oral spray & injections) - cuts severity of sulfite reactions, increases sulfite tolerance threshold
Magnesium - reduces muscle pain and cramping, helps gut motility
Peppermint essential oil - motion sickness, skin itching, sometimes helps nausea
Homeopathic Ipecac. - helps nausea "attacks"
Medications:
Claritin - hay-fever/sinus symptoms, itchy eyes, etc.
Pulmicort - (sprayed up my nose) helps plugged/itchy ears, nasal inflammation & hayfever symptoms
Domperidone - helps my slow stomach to empty faster, helps me tolerate anything in my stomach (can't eat much without it), helps nausea
Zofran - works for my really bad nausea episodes
Benadryl - I use it for acute allergic reactions, as well as for sulfite reactions
Other:
Gluten/Corn/Dairy-free diet - gluten & corn cause migraines, gut dysmotility & monthly cramps for me, and dairy gunks up my sinuses and may contribute to gut dysmotility
Low protein diet - given genetic issues, I have difficulty processing certain amino acids (sulfur-based) and so have found I just feel better in general on a low protein diet
Heat/heating pad/electric warming blanket - reduces pain, muscle spasms, and just plain helps me feel better (as long as I don't overheat...)
I've been on abx since early this year because of multiple infections (UTI, lung, skin). When the doctor tries to take me off, I get sicker...and last time we tried to lower the dose, I spiked a fever of 103 (my normal is 96-97.5, so 103 is a pretty big deal) within 24 hours of reducing the abx dose by 50%. So my doctor is content to leave me on the abx for now. The abx I'm on is not known to be particularly effective for Lyme, but it must be helping some or I don't think I'd get sicker without being on it.
