The sore throat started last night when I was on the computer. It is getting gradually worse with sinus drainage. I am taking vitamins like crazy with zicam, alka-seltzer cold, peppermint tea and emergen-c. I really really hope it just goes away right now! I don't want to be sick on top of being sick:(

But, I went ahead and got the flu shot today. I've never had one in my whole life and would be the first to tell you that it is all a big conspiracy and to never get one...but, since I am sick now, I figured I would give it a shot. And since I already had a sore throat I figured I was gonna be sick anyway, so if it gives me the flu..oh well!

Hey alone,

I'm sorry you are sick. I had the sore throat for two days and my daughter had it for over a week. I took Vitamin C and echinacea and I think that is what helped me.

Did you know that you're not supposed to get the flu shot when you are sick?

Elderberry acts to stop the replication of viruses (i.e., like birth control for viruses), so that plus zinc is a good combo for viral infections. I also get good results from Oscillococcinum (homeopathic flu remedy) and SafeCareRx (made by King Bio) Acute ViroReliever (another homeopathic flu/cold remedy).

My son's homeopath gave us a homeopathic remedy called Influderm. You take it as soon as you think you have any flu like symptoms. Much better than a yucky vaccs!

I hope you feel better soon. I think a cold is going around - same symptoms as you have. At least it is not H1N1!

Yeah, super glad its not H1N1.
CG, yeah, I did find out that you can't get flu shot when you are sick. My doctor said that since I didn't have a high fever though and was just starting to get a virus that it would be ok.
I now have a slightly stuffy nose and my glands are swollen. My throat is still driving me crazy, but I think the Emergen-C, airborne, alka-seltzer cold, zicam and oj did help! I was gonna get that osc......flu stuff, but I just couldn't afford any more stuff!
Thanks everyone....here's hoping I kick this soon.
BTW. I saw in the paper today that 11 more kids died from the swine flu this week. This is just so terrible!

Razzle,

I'm always impressed with how much knowledge you have about medical stuff. I understand what you say is your opinion.... Are there particular homeopathic reference books that you would recommend? I keep copying your posts onto my Lyme document and it's getting very difficult to organize, so if there is a book or two that could be helpful I could access the information much more easily.

Alone, I have no idea if this is/was related to Lyme or not, but last Feb, while celebrating my daughter-in-law's Birthday, I suddenly had almost the worst sore throat I had EVER had, since my tonsillectomy in 1972! 

This HURT like hell!! I I thought it was just some temporary virus, plus sitting down w/ a sore throat to eat crispy chicken, etc and I was not careful how I swallowed my food.  As severe as my pain was, I never had a fever w/ it.

Still, at the time, it hurt so bad that I had to get up from the table and go to a walk in clinic. They tested for strep, which was negative and told me there was a virus going round.  Well, this danged sore throat lasted at least 3 weeks before I got some relief.  Right now, I  tend to believe it was caused/ related to my lyme, or a co-infection, but I don't know what it may have been. 

Also, now that I think about it, (and this may not be of any significance), I got a light red, round mark on my neck almost immediately after the sore throat subsided.  EVeryone thought it was a hikie and IT WAS NOT!  It lasted for some time, until my Mom gave me somekind of ointment for it.

So this may or may not have anythng to do w/ Lyme, but thought I'd post for Alone -- just in case any of this relates to how you are feeling.  But I never had any sinus drainage or anything like that.  It was just as I said -- a whopping sore throat.

Hi Alone, 

Hope you are feeling better soon.  This time of year, even before ever having had Lyme to contend with, I start taking a blend of elderberry and zinc by NOW Foods, also containing extra C, bee propolis, and slippery elm bark.  It's a chewable tablet, and tastes sort of pleasant.  Also Vital Adapt, by Natura.  It comes in tinture or capsule.  I just add the tincture to my tea, but I by the capsules for my family who don't drink tea.  When I start to feel any scratchiness or swelling in my throat, I take grapefruit seed extract.  It tastes awful, but has kicked many germ butts for me, and kept me from getting a full blown cold.

I don't know if any of these have any adverse reactions with other meds, so I'd check that out if you are thinking of trying them.

Willowrose...I am assuming your post was not directed at me? Only because I don't know very much!lol. But, if it was, all my knowledge just comes from being on health forums, reading, and from personal experience or experiences of friends/acquaintences. But, I am pretty sure ur post was meant for someone else:)
+Lyme...I had my first appointment with my LLMD yesterday and one of the questions on their little profile was if I get sore throats. So, yours was probably definitely related to Lyme. Mine might have been as well, but it is hard to tell because now I have the stuffy nose, sinus infection, sneezing, fever, etc. Ugh. It is terrible.
TS....Thank you:) I am gonna write down those things you take and check with my dr or pharmacist and see if I can take them. This has already lasted over a week and I just can't stand it. And that emergen-c and zicam is so darn expensive! I "borrowed" a bunch of emergen-c from my sis because it was so expensive!

Hehe.lol. I was gonna buy it there. It was like between $5 and $8 (can't remember) for ten packets. And you are supposed to use 3-4 a day. I can't afford that! So, I stole some of my sisters:) She bought a big box at walgreens. I will have to check there...but we don't have one around here.
I now have the cough to go with the rest of it. This is never ending:(

Alone, are you sure you are not herxing from the new abx? Sometimes a herx has the same symptoms as what you describe. Just a thought ...

Really? I didn't know that! I could be. That would be great! Well, painful, but at least we would be getting somewhere:) I really don't know how I would know the difference though...any suggestions?
After only 1 1/2 days of prednisone and inhaler, I can breathe so much better. I still feel pretty bad, but a lot better than yesterday.
